US soldiers in Iraq fear retribution for prison scandal
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040515/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_us_prisoners&cid=1514&ncid=1473

MOSUL, Iraq (AFP) - US soldiers patrolling the mean streets of Mosul are livid the barbaric abuses committed at the Abu Ghraib prison will expose them to vicious retribution.

Most Task Force Olympia soldiers, based at one of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s glitzy former palaces in the northern city, are reluctant to talk about the abuses by their fellow soldiers.

When they do, words like "appalled" "disgusted" "shocked" and "disappointed" are on the tip of their tongue.

Above all, they fear paying the price for the crimes of a few and are furious their efforts to drive reconstruction projects will be undermined.

1. love this logic
"Prisoners don't deserve such treatment. It's wrong, but the press should look at what they are doing to us instead what we are doing to them. They are killing us for no reasons ... soldiers and civilians," said the captain.

They started it when they hit us back!

5. God help our poor soldiers and marines,
the rotten leadership all the way up the ladder to the White house has put them in the worst situation possible, they deserve better, we need to get rid of the war criminals in the pentagon and the white house, they make my skin crawl.

6. Civilians in NYC also fear increased likelihood of retribution.
A lot of Manhattanites have already scheduled vacation time to coincide with the GOP convention because the city will be so locked down in terms of transportation. Some scheduled vacation so they could join protests. Now they are talking about how the Iraq prison torture scandal has greatly increased incentives to terrorists for retribution attacks and how the GOP convention is such a "bring-em-on" target. So some people I know there have decided that week is a good time to get out of
Dodge. Unfortunately, our military forces stuck in Iraq don't have that option.

7. We have a captured soldier, Maupin, over
there somewhere. He was taken the same time as Hamill. I don't know and don't imagine anyone else knows what has happened to him. I fear for him and the civilians that are still missing.

9. And since they are on edge, they will
tend to pull the trigger just a little bit more quickly than they would have last month, which will lead to a few more civilian deaths, which will lead to more animosity, which will..

We are more a part of the problem than a part of the solution.

12. They must not have gotten the memo ~ It's not the torture that will
increase their risk of attack it is the Liberals who released photos. Remember it is all the Liberals fault. They were just doing their Army thing and along came a bunch of commie liberals and messed up all their fun.

13. Yeah and that shit makes my head explode.
Does anybody really, honestly think the Iraqis only know about the torture of their countrymen because they were published in the American press? What the fuck kind of moron do you have to be not to think they know because they've been told by the people who were tortured? Duh! I'm sure they knew long ago, I'm sure they've known all along that innocent Iraqis were being grabbed off the street, and probably knew -- at least with a fairly high degree of accuracy -- exactly what was being done to them. Honestly, this is the one thing about the whole debacle that slays me -- that there are people out there who think the only way the Iraqis would know about this was through American media outlets.

In my opinion Bush's treatment of Iraqis is the root cause of the bloodshed.
1. How would you feel if Chinese soldiers invaded America and then came and kicked in your home doors and chained and put bags over your husband, sons... and took them away. (a bag over their heads when it's 95F plus in the shade.)
2. The there have been many reports of soldiers abusing/beating Iraqi in the streets.
3. What if the word has been out since day one what Americans have been doing to Iraqi prisoners? I mean, the American GOP Media Whores haven't reported it but it's common knowledge to the people who actually are experiencing it.

So the Iraqis make the decision to fight to the death or face years of torture with no rights like Muslims in Guantanamo Bay and Afghanistan.

Let me honestly ask any of you what your decision would be?

More, I'd like to personally ask Bush, in a national press conference, this question.
