Johannesburg - South Africans whooped with joy on Saturday as the executive of the Federation of International Football Associations (Fifa) awarded the country the right to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Following the "absolutely sensational" confirmation from Fifa headquarters in Zurich today that South Africa has been successful in its bid to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup, South African Tourism chief executive officer, Cheryl Carolus, says that the country's tourism industry will be ready and waiting to give a warm South African welcome to the thousands of fans who will flock to the country to the largest sporting event of its kind in the world.

"What better news could our industry have asked for to cement the successes we have achieved and are indeed celebrating during this historic year as we celebrate 10 Years of Freedom?, she added.

5. Khadaffi says "I wuz robbed!"
Come on. Nobody was biting their fingernails about this decision. It not like this was a real competition. Thanks to Lynndie and Co., no Westerners will show for any tourists events in the Arab world for a long, long time.

Congratulations to South Africa for winning the 2010 World Cup. I think they should have picked them to host 2006 but I think with this, FIFA has paid it's due to Africa. African soccer is more prominent than ever and South Africa 2010 will boost it's profile.

4. You can thank the Oceania delegate for the 2006 debacle.
The delegate was sent by the Oceania confederation to the vote for 2006 with explicit instructions to vote for South Africa, and for reasons only known to him he voted for Germany.

He was either racist or bribed.

6. I grew up in South Africa under apartheid watching the whites
only professional soccer league. My fervent dream was to see a true South African team competing in the World Cup, never mind hosting it.

I honestly didn't think I would see it happen in my lifetime. I know where I'll be in 2010.

7. This is a great day for South Africa
Got to watch this live. Hard to believe that within 20 years of ending apartheid, South Africa is going to get the cup.

I hope to be there in 6 years to see this all come together.

Congrats to all.
