5 U.S. Soldiers Die in Separate Incidents


BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military on Saturday announced the deaths of five soldiers: three from wounds suffered in rebel attacks, one in a vehicle accident and one from natural causes.



A soldier died at 3 p.m. Friday from wounds he received during a mortar attack that day, and another soldier died on the same day from bullet wounds suffered when a sniper ambushed his unit, the military said.


Early Friday, a military vehicle overturned during a patrol, killing a soldier, the military said.


All three soldiers belonged to the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division and all died south of Baghdad.


Another soldier died at around 8 p.m. Friday from wounds suffered in a car bomb attack on a military convoy on a road near Balad, north of Baghdad, the military said. Another soldier was injured in the attack.


A fifth soldier died of natural causes Friday in the headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition in Baghdad, the military said.


"The soldier was found unconscious and transported to the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 a.m.," the military said in a statement.


The names of the soldiers were withheld pending notification of their families.

10. I know the mother

of a young soldier who was just severely wounded in Iraq. However, what upsets him most is not that he was wounded, but that he is away from his buddies in the war zone and he wants to rejoin them as soon as possible.

This guy is around 20 years old. I have to hand it to our military. If this "grunt"'s attitude is typical, they have done a "body-snatcher" operation on these soldiers and literally turned them into "lean, mean killing machines." There are no more morale problems when you have extracted one's humanity. I would say this young man is close to being a robot already. The Pentagon probably laments that he still has flesh and blood which can be torn apart and leak out. He may well lament the same thing.

The "mind control" techniques employed by the military to achieve such all-for-one and one-for-all camaraderie and "unit cohesion" are a wonder to behold, but they ought to scare the bejeesus out of the rest of us, because one day in the not-too-distant future in totalitarian "Ameriraq" these same soldiers will see you and me as the enemy and be disappointed when they have to take a break from killing us.

15. More Guilt then Mind Control

It's more a feeling of guilt on the part of the soldier then mind control. He feels guilty because his friends are in harms way and he's not there to help them. This is something that all soldiers deal with, and it comes down to a matter of choice.

Remember a few weeks back, the sisters of a soldier killed in Iraq had to decide whether they wanted to return or to get a non-combat assignment. Luckily for their parents they chose to stay home, but they felt guilty about not returning to Iraq, mainly because of the friends that were still there.

So I think this kid is feeling a sense of guilt, and misses his friends, more then he wants to actually kill people.

I volunteered for Desert Storm, not out of any need to be a "killing machine", but because of an obligation I felt I owed. Besides that I
had two friends that were dealing with family problems at the time, and I volunteered to get thme off the hook as it were.

I have never regretted my decision, and truth be known if I had been wounded, going back would have been the last thing that I'd want to do.

I could be mistaken, since I come from a different generation of soldiers then this kid does.

16. I know nothing about this personally, but it appears to be

a response of fighting men in general. The soldiers of World War II and even the Civil War expressed the same kind of feelings.

Modern military indoctrination may well screw up their heads, I don't know, and it appears the soldiers nowadays are given some kind of drug to make them mopre aggressive. I remember reading that in one article a few years back when there was a sudden spate of soldiers killing their wives; and just a few weeks back someone here linked to an article that described US soldiers going into battle under the influence of amphetamines.

He worked in France and got treated like shit because he was American. Now he's working around other parts of Europe and is a brilliant programmer. He took his girlfriend to Paris a few weeks ago. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

It's a wind up most of the time. We have been messaging more oft than not within the community lately. It's nice to connect privately once in awhile. You should try it.

EF should be more of a Rugby match feel, plenty of pints after the match. We are expatriates and that's all we have in common. But we are still people with kids, and lives, and jobs and friends etc.

and get no recognition. They are not mentioned by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, The GOP Whore Media...

Imagine yourself a soldier and going to fight in Iraq. How would this make you feel to know this is the way your Bush Government will treat you?

The GOP leadership and immoral fake patriots (Limbaugh, Savage, Fineman, Novak...) in our country are a disgrace to our Nation.
