Rice turns on the charm to keep US allies loyal
Rice turns on the charm to keep US allies loyal
By Alec Russell in Washington
(Filed: 15/05/2004)

Condoleezza Rice, America's national security adviser, is appealing to Washington's allies not to panic over Iraq.

She said the prisoner abuse scandal was being dealt with and that there was no alternative to backing America in its war against terrorism.

Speaking ahead of her trip to Europe to bolster support for America's plans for Iraq's transition to self-rule, she said the scandal had been "a real shock, I think, to all of us to the American people, to members of the armed forces".

<snip>

She also urged America's allies not to follow Spain's decision to withdraw its troops from Iraq, saying that would not immunise them from terrorist attacks.

"They are not attacking countries because they are participating in Iraq, they're attacking countries because they intend to take down the civilised free world and impose their own political views on the world."

<snip>

Check out the hands. Doesn't it look like she is ready to testify at The Hague? LOL

The only person that she charms is GWB and that is because he is officially certified as an Idiot.

I guess working so closely to Bush will do that to a person. Bush looks more evil and twisted every time I see a photograph.

19. Her head looks huge and she looks like Gollum.
She looks like she's kind of turning into Gollum. Her head looks like it was superimposed onto the body. Plus she is sort of hunched over. Maybe thats a wig she's wearing and underneath are just a few wisps of grey hair.

23. Because she's a woman, or because its just wrong?
Is it wrong to criticize Condi's looks because she's a woman or because its just wrong to criticize people's appearance? Plenty of posts around that criticize the way Rummy, Cheney, Dubya, Perle and Colin look too.

All the horrible atrocities these villains are committing are taking their toll on them physically as well. I don't believe I've seen Rice without a scowl on her face in 2 years.

Often what's on a person's face reflects what's inside and if you ask me, the picture conveys her beliefs as well as her actions quite well.

Agreed: then you MUST agree Mallard Fillmore is the most repellent comic strip in American papers, right?

BTW, what was that university in Germany where all the Nazis got sword scars on their cheeks? Looks like Condi's *charm* is showing hers in this photo.

I'll bet her husband,,, errr, the (p)Resident finds her charms to be very *warm and comforting*

Tut-tut

44. not a university
The Scar on the cheek is a tradition in German fraternities ("Burschenschaften") called "Schmiss". The tradition is older than the Nazi party and persists to this day.
Many German fraternities are extremely nationalistic and thus generally avoided by sane students, but they have not lost their power completely. Generally only the most extremist fraternities still use the old habits, but a good advice to all entertaining the thought of studying in Germany: by all means stay clear of German fraternities.

32. "These are not people with whom one can negotiate or whom you can appease"
That's sums it all up nicely doesn't it? That leaves this mal-admin with only one option - kill or imprison them all. Yet their tactics just create more "terra" and more "terrist". Anyone with the audacity to take up arms against the Empire are considered "terrist" or at the least "insurgents". But Shrubco doesn't really differentiate between the 2 anyway.

"Loyal" to what?
US aims, even if they are contrary to their nation's aims?

The point of an alliance is mutual benefit. If the mutual benefit ends, what's the point of the alliance?

43. She's turning to Putin for help with the UN
http://www.arabtimesonline.com/arabtimes/breakingnews/view.asp?msgID=5828

MOSCOW (Reuters) - U.S. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday the United States wanted Russia's cooperation in working out a U.N resolution on Iraq.

"She made it clear that we want to work closely with the Russians on the text of the Security Council resolution which we will soon be drafting and sharing with our Russian friends," a U.S. embassy spokesman told Reuters.

The arrangements for the June 30 handover were the subject of intense discussions on Friday in both New York and Washington involving foreign ministers of leading industrialised states and diplomats at the United Nations.

Russia made it plain on the eve of the talks with Rice that it was willing to work with Washington on a U.N. Security Council resolution to underpin the handover, but said it wanted a clear outline of post-occupation arrangements.

snip>
Her mission focuses on persuading Russia, a permanent Security Council member with veto power, to back a new resolution to enable a multinational force to maintain security as long as possible.
