Financial Times: Support for Bush plummets over Iraq (36%!)
http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullS...

Public support for President George W. Bush's handling of the war in Iraq has plunged to only 36 per cent and his approval rating has fallen to the lowest level of his presidency, according to a Zogby poll due out on Sunday.

Confronted with a rising US body count and images of torture in Abu Ghraib prison, Americans have begun to countenance failure in Iraq. The majority of people polled now do not think it was worth going to war.

The shift in the national mood bodes ill for Mr Bush's hopes of a second term and has bolstered the campaign of John Kerry, his Democrat challenger.

The poll will show 42 per cent of people approve of Mr Bush's overall performance. Almost two-thirds are critical of his handling of Iraq, according to John Zogby, the pollster.

3. yes, but if the NEXT president doesn't end the occupation...
...unconditionally, the PNAC still wins. A permanent garrison force in Iraq is the neo-con wet dream!

13. dammit, Bush is as much a symptom as a cause....
He's a strutting neo-con puppet. In and of himself, he's odious, but hes not the REAL problem. Their foreign policy agenda is the problem-- the disaster, the train wreak-- that must be undone. Simply replacing Bush with someone else who continues the neo-con agenda will be a pretty Pyhrric victory.

18. I don't buy your argument
I am certain that if Gore had been in the White House there would have been no war in Iraq.

But Kerry will have his hands full if he does win. Remember the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court are in Republican hands. We will need to take back either the House (which the Repubs in state legislatures are making very difficult) and we will need moderate Supreme Court Justices (the Republican Senate will never confirm liberal judges--we'll have to be grateful that we won't get more Scalias or Thomases)

23. I'm betting that if Gore had been allowed to keep his 2000 election...
...victory, 911 would never have happened, and the economy would still be running as well as it was when Clinton was president.

27. You're wasting your breath, Mike
The ABB crowd can't be bothered to think beyond the election right now, if ever.

Of course, you are right: Bush is not the problem. The problem is a corrupt imperial establishment whose will it is the duty of the White House to carry out.

What irony if those most loudly calling for ABB get their wish--and end up being drafted! They'll have deserved it for not paying attention.

14. The neo-con wet dreams are all dried up!
I think that Kerry won't really follow in georgie's goose steps. The administration's values have been more deeply exposed than ever before. Kerry is no fool. He is not going to say anything to get himself labeled unpatriotic. I think he is just going to let Bush twist slowly, slowly in the wind.

8. John Zogby: quote "John Kerry will win the election" unquote
"I have made a career of taking bungee jumps in my election calls. Sometimes I haven’t had a helmet and I have gotten a little scratched. But here is my jump for 2004: John Kerry will win the election."

Great article on why Kerry will win.

10. thus the "oh, we'll leave if asked" talk...

But there can be no doubt that the Chimpministration is damned if they do and damned if they don't. If the war in Iraq is part of the War on Terrah, then isn't leaving Iraq a DEFEAT in the War on Terrah?

And staying in Iraq is stupid because if we just "stay the course" and utilize "steady leadership in a time of change" then we're guaranteed NO help from NATO, the UN, etc and are just left there taking casualties and going bankrupt.

11. How will the next terrorist attack on the US
impact his poll numbers?

Maybe it will hurt him, emphasizing how truly incompetent he is? More likely it will make people think he can protect them.

the last time, he had only been president for nine months, so most people didn't blame him for not protecting us. This time they would.

25. Poll Variation... but just as damning for George
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040514/ts_alt_afp/us_iraq_vote_poll&e=2

(snip)
Only 41 percent said the United States was winning the war in Iraq.

In the war on terrorism, Bush held an advantage, with 49 percent saying he would do a better job than Kerry. Only 42 percent favored the Democrat. But more people thought Kerry would do a better on reducing the US deficit, protecting the environment and reducing unemployment.

Overall, voters expressed concern about Bush. Those with "doubts and reservations" about the president's ability to lead rose to 59 percent from 55 percent in a February poll.

----------------------------------------

Kerry is more trusted on every issue than george is.
Except for the war. BUT with bush's support for the war at a sickly 49 % and with doubts about his ability to lead at near 60%...
When the best george can pull off balances out to something in the 'minus'side of John Kerry, then this is great news for us.

The majority has awaken! bout time.
Of course we've been declaring this about the loser in chief since he began his campaign of 2000. No One listed to us and nor would they give a place for our voices, warning the Nation abut the dangers and doubts of GW Bush.
So it goes.

By the way..to all you "toaster" posters, fellow DUer 'ODDMAN" sent me the greatest pic to go with my tagline.
A pic similar to the one above, a silver toaster w/ george's face on the popped-up toast..in jpeg form, BUT I don't know how to upload it onto my avatar thingy...!!

I'll try it again tonite...
Meanwhile..Bush's self-destrucion is good news for John Kerry...too bad the WORLD had to suffer for this total incompetant dumb-ass cowboy-wanna-be.

What an enormous job President John Kerry will have, cleaning up after george.
