India government faces poll defeat (dupe)

Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is to resign as his governing BJP party faces defeat in India's general election.
With a third of the results declared, the main opposition Congress party has won 105 seats and is projected to beat the governing BJP-led alliance.

Mr Vajpayee called the poll six months early - but all the signs are that the move has backfired.
