Hastert rips White House
http://www.thehill.com/news/051304/hastert.aspx

Republicans on the Hill are so frustrated with the White House that when Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) criticized the administration at a House GOP meeting last week, the caucus burst into applause.

The meeting was only the latest sign in an accumulating body of evidence that lawmakers are unhappy with the way the administration treats them.

One GOP lawmaker at the caucus meeting said Hastert “expressed outright dismay with the White House staff for the way the transportation bill had been handled. They did not give the priority necessary to the issue in resolving it as the Speaker had wanted. It’s in absolute limbo.”

A rank-and-file lawmaker said: “Hastert was frustrated and disappointed that he had not been dealt with openly and fairly and given accurate information. He was not so much speaking to the conference as he was speaking for the conference.”

3. terrified of being associated with Bush
the Worst President Ever, dragging them down with him in November.

Hastert saw up close what George Ryan did to the IL GOP. :-)

9. ding, ding, ding!
Eggzactly. Just a few months ago, Hastert was trying to cover for Bush on the 9/11 commission. He's reading the polls and knows the news is not good.

Too bad Denny. You abdicated your responsibility to check Dimson and the neo-con clowns. Look in the mirror and blame that guy.

Maybe Hastert noticed it is more likely he will ascend to the presidency through succession when junta people get hauled to the Hague than get re-elected in his own district because of the current GOP policies taking everybody down. The Oval Office is probably not where he would like to be.

Now, somebody alert the media that we are getting our news from other sources since they aren't up to the task. Oh, and alert the sponsors too, they are throwing $$ down a rat hole unless the US media starts doing real journalism and making a fuss about the fact that the Cheney junta has subverted every institution of our system. He hates America and that needs to be addressed.

edit: just needed to fix it

11. Hastert upset? wow that surprises me
A rank-and-file lawmaker said: “Hastert was frustrated and disappointed that he had not been dealt with openly and fairly and given accurate information.

I remember John McCain saying many months ago (perhaps it goes back a year) that he was lied to by the white house - cant remember the details but he was pretty pissed - I think he's been on low simmer ever since. I think there is mutiny brewing in the ranks.

Edited on Wed May-12-04 08:14 PM by lunabush
Every country in the world is united in their hatred of him. The Dems hate him. Vets hate him. First George Will, the John McCain, then Hastert and today Grassley are bitching about him. That Bush*, a great uniter!

... oh, must be because you too are part of that do-not-deal-with-on-an-

Not part of the solution? Must be part of the problem.

17. Transportation problems
" Efforts have been made in the past several days to mend fences. Senior White House officials met in Hastert’s office this week, and on Tuesday Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) had dinner at the White House with Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. (The main dish was spaghetti with shrimp.)"

Sickening! Why couldn't have Hastert say, he couldn't come to dinner because of transportation problems? That would piss junior off, 'eh>

18. He was also mad at the Senate...
For not removing pay-as-you-go requirements, making it harder to cut taxes.

The transportation bill was nothing more than a huge barrel of pork. Lardass Denny is pissed because they can't have their cake and eat it too (along with everyone else's). Fuck him and his boss--T*m D*l*y.

19. They reap what they have sown.
Everything this administration has touched is now FUBAR. Hastert and the rest of the Republicans in the House have been willing - enthusiastic - accomplices. Now they're getting a taste of what it is like to live with what they claimed to want so badly.

21. Denny, dear, many Americans have not been dealt with ...

openly and fairly, and many have been frustrated and disappointed because we have not been given accurate information by the Administration, on issues such as budget projections or WMDs in Iraq.

If you had been paying more attention, you might have noticed some of these problems earlier, say, oh, two or three years ago.

Come to think of it, in fact, it's been rather obvious.

Have you been ignoring this problem for ideological reasons?

And get back to work huffing on some Chimp schlong. It's worked oh-so-well for you so far, and it is, after all, the only routine in your playbook, Coach.

Besides, how dare you criticize a popular wartime president? You're either with him or against him. Do you hate America, Denny? Do you hate freedom? Is that it? If so, then I've got a broomstick with your name on it, big boy!

No shit, Sherlock.

Guess what the unemployment figures are hugely inaccurate too !!
And the unemployed and underemployed people certainly know it and they are talking about it.

the GOP has a date with the toaster in November.

And everything is collapsing at once: economy and foreign policy.

30. You mean they finally noticed they are dealing with an Emperor?
It's only just occurred to these enablers that Bushco thinks Congress is his personal stable of lackeys and not an independent branch of government? They are only now figuring out that there might be some drawbacks to having ceded so much power to the Executive Branch?

Suppose you were talking about a bunch of idiots. And suppose you were talking about Congress. But I repeat myself. (paraphrasing Mark Twain)

Well, better late than never. But I'll save my rejoicing for when it looks like a real trend for Congress to start opposing Bush.

Hekate
