Moore finds film distributors: Weinstein brothers will do it themselves!!

Moore Eyes New US Distributor

Controversial director Michael Moore may have found a distributor for his new documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 despite Disney banning Miramax from releasing it - the Weinstein brothers themselves. According to American newspaper New York Daily News, Miramax owners Harvey and Bob Weinstein may buy the film as individuals. Last week the Dude, Where's My Country? author announced Disney had forbidden Miramax from distributing Fahrenheit 9/11, which criticizes American President George W Bush's dealings before the Iraq war and links his political family to that of terror chief Osama Bin Laden. The film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this month and has secured a contract with Optimum Releasing to be distributed in the UK. A source told the New York Daily News the Weinsteins could buy the film and sell the distribution rights to another company. The source says, "There's a precedent for that - they did that with Kids and Dogma." Miramax spokesman Matthew Hiltzik denies the film is unpatriotic, explaining, "It's very respectful of the troops."

Thank you Bob & Harvey Weinstein for not letting Disney bully you folks around.

primary among them Michael Eisner, who is also Jewish, by the way.

The Weinstiens did well with "Dogma"; I hope Moore's film tops their biggest hits!

17. heres biggest holders
Barclay's is a British bank, but this is their asset management group so its basically mutual funds like Fidelity.

So it's technically owned by millions of people who have 401K, pension funds, mutual funds or directly own stock, but it's largely CONTROLLED by a hundred or so people in the asset management business. Just like most other Fortune 500 companies. Of course the asset management people will mostly keep their hands off and let the company management run things unless they see that the company management is producing less 'value' (profit or growth) than possible.

4. Keep an eye on this...
I doubt it's over. This film is going to obliterate Bush...They'll still try to stop it somehow. I expect Rush and pals will pump up the "Michael Moore is a commie and a liar" rhetoric in the coming months.

20. looking to the Saudi to bail it out
Did Saudi Investors Pressure Disney To Drop Michael Moore's New Film on 9/11?

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/05/11/1341206

"Disney may have another reason, not mentioned by the Times, to reject a film that might offend the Saudi royal family: A powerful member of the family, Al-Walid bin Talal, owns a major stake in Eurodisney and has been instrumental in the past in bailing out the financially troubled amusement park. The project is facing a new cash crunch, and Al-Walid has been mentioned as a potential rescuer."

That's what Moore says they put into the film though they told him they had no intention of distributing it. Hope the stockholders don't mind, LOL!!!

15. The money came from Miramax, not directly from Disney.
But since Disney owns Miramax, it dictates terms of release.

16. I believe that Disney
via Miramax would stil get a cut of the $ as being the producer, but since Miramax is distributing it anyway, it won't affect their bottom line.

That would be just about perfect. Or should it be saved to counteract Shrubbie's "October Surprise"?

23. CNN link
http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movies/05/12/disney.moore.reut/index.h...

Looks like we'll get to see another one from Michael Moore after all. I think I'll pull out my 'Bowling for Columbine' DVD and watch it in celebration.

"The Walt Disney Co. and the co-chiefs of Miramax Films are near a deal that would allow director Michael Moore to find a new distributor for his controversial documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11," company officials said Wednesday."
