March Fong Eu to run as Democrat in Recall
Former California Secretary of State March Fong Eu, a Democrat, pulled nomination papers in Sacramento County

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/ca/story/7171727p-8118811c.html

Eu, 81, served as the state's top elections official for nearly 20 years, leaving in 1994 to take a federal ambassadorship to Micronesia. She attempted a political comeback last year but lost in the Democratic primary for secretary of state to Kevin Shelley, who won the office.

1. oh for gosh sake
I remember her as Sec of state when I lived in California as a kid. She would have been a great candidate twenty years ago. This is ridiculous--it is a circus.

4. I think
making it into a 'circus' is the main idea.

5. Why not Bob Boudelang too?
Isn't the filing cost $3500 and 65 co-signers? We could get some money together and 65 Calfirnia DU'ers and get Bob Boudelang on the ballot...

7. Oh come on!
A traitor? That's bunch of shit. Her SON was running for office. The only time that she campaigned for her SON was when the Boxer camp starting to run attack ads against her SON.

I'm not defending Matt Fong, but to attack March Fong for supporting her SON is total shit.

13. She endorsed him early...
that, to me, is not acceptable. He was running on a right-wing platform. Why would Eu oppose Sen. Boxer? Sorry, but familial ties should not determine such a thing. I assure you, I would not do the same thing as her... I would remain "neutral."

3. 81?????..Fong Eu very much, but no thanks
Shit.. I was afraid of this.. pretty soon there will be about 5 or 6 dems on the list and none of them will get the necessary amount..and probably enough dopes will vote Yes, thinking they have to in order to pick an alternative..

We were better with Flynt & the porn girl.. Now we have Arianna and Fong Eu and others soon to muddy the waters

6. brace yourself
I have a feeling that California is going to wind up with a right wing Governor elected with less than 20% of the vote. The only silver lining is that it will be them responsible for turning the state around and putting up with disgruntled voters.

9. I don't know.
Fong Eu doesn't have to worry about future political prospects. Active Dem pols may be kept in line to not run by their concern about future elections. The ideal for Dems is to have one, but only one, Dem on the ballot who is not so popular that Dems would vote for recall on the basis of that candidate, but for whom those who vote 'No' could also vote. March Fong Eu may fill the bill: no longer popular in her own right, not clearly preferable to Davis, but a Dem to put a vote next to in case the recall passes.

10. Yeah, but so what?
What the hell is a right-winger going to be able to accomplish? The pukies were stupid to pull a recall.

A winger CAN'T cut taxes. If they make massive cuts in state budgets, like in Colorado, taxpayers get really pissed off (a 4 hour wait in driver's license offices really annoys people). Democrats dominate the legislature, so the Governor can't slam through any half-brained anti-abortion or gun law.

By rights, it should been Pete Wilson taking the blame for this mess. Why not let a pukie take the blame for the cleanup?

for Sec of State.

She's a good woman, but I don't understand why she's running.
