Red Cross chief told U.S. of Iraq abuse-TV
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L09411073.htm

BERLIN, May 9 (Reuters) - The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross told top U.S. officials of abuses in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison during a visit to Washington in January, an ICRC spokeswoman told German television.

Nada Doumani was quoted by Spiegel TV as saying that Red Cross President Jakob Kellenberger met Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice during his visit.

"We went to the top," she told the television. "And he told them of our concerns over the prisons in Iraq."

1. So, if I understand this correctly....
...from the statement in the report, "...Red Cross President Jakob Kellenberger met Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice during his visit.......went to the top..and he told them of concerns over the prisons in Iraq."

If Wolfowitz was told then Rumsfeld was told. If Rumsfeld knew about the level of seriousness of this, then he certainly informed President Bush. Yet none of these individuals thought this matter should be addressed in any way except to cover it up and keep it from getting out to the congress, the press and the American people.

:wtf:

Then the whole bunch MUST GO!
We need to ride herd on the Congress critters
to impeach them ALL is this is true.
There is NO WAY for Congress to shirk their duties
and oaths at this point.
If they do, then we get rid of them.
It is the least we can do to support our troops.

4. Now here's the killer.
On Yahoo news, there's an article which states that Rumsfeld has been frantically trying to keep the lid on this for several months. This is from an unnamed official at the Pentagon. He said it was "wishful thinking" on Rumsfeld's part.

This means that he knew all along, rather than he just found out about it recently. Rummy testified to this on Friday.

Caught.

SCHINDLER'S LIST

Ralph Fiennes plays a chilling Amon Goeth in the movie, and plays him to the point that some
people have had trouble distinguishing him from the real thing.

Poldek Pfefferberg, one of the Schindler Jews, famously said, "When you saw Göeth, you saw
death."

8. Abuses at Camp Bucca also
The findings echo the claims of ill-preparedness by four 320th soldiers accused of abusing soldiers last May at Camp Bucca in southern Iraq. The detachment worked at Camp Bucca before moving to Abu Ghraib in July.
-snip-
The latest report charged that soldiers under the three officers' command failed to accurately account for prisoners or document riots, shootings and escapes. Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba, who led the investigation, chastised the chain of command for failing to enact procedural changes after the Camp Bucca abuses surfaced.

He also found that soldiers at Abu Ghraib hid prisoners, brought there by other governmental agencies, from inspectors of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
-snip-
And just a week ago, a Canadian civilian filed a $350,000 lawsuit against the U.S. Army, claiming he was falsely imprisoned, tortured and injured by soldiers at Camp Bucca last April, according to The Associated Press.

9. AP Wire: Red Cross Report Describes Systematic U.S. Abuse in Iraq

Red Cross Report Describes Systematic U.S. Abuse in Iraq

By Alexander G. Higgins Associated Press Writer
Published: May 10, 2004
GENEVA (AP) - A Red Cross report disclosed Monday said coalition intelligence officers estimated that 70-90 percent of Iraqi detainees were arrested by mistake and said Red Cross observers witnessed U.S. officers mistreating Abu Ghraib prisoners by keeping them naked in total darkness in empty cells.

The report by the International Committee of the Red Cross supports its allegations that abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers was broad and "not individual acts" - contrary to President Bush's contention that the mistreatment "was the wrongdoing of a few."

"ICRC delegates directly witnessed and documented a variety of methods used to secure the cooperation of the persons deprived of their liberty with their interrogators," according to the confidential report.

The delegates saw in October how detainees at Abu Ghraib were kept "completely naked in totally empty concrete cells and in total darkness," the report said.

"Upon witnessing such cases, the ICRC interrupted its visits and requested an explanation from the authorities," the report said. "The military intelligence officer in charge of the interrogation explained that this practice was 'part of the process.'" <snip>
