First prison abuse court-martial date is set
24-year-old MP to stand trial in Baghdad on May 19

The Associated Press
Updated: 3:01 p.m. ET May 09, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A 24-year-old U.S. military policeman will be the first soldier to face a court-martial in connection with the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, the military said Sunday.

Spc. Jeremy C. Sivits of Hyndman, Pa., a member of the 372nd Military Police Company, will stand trial in Baghdad on May 19, Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said.

Sivits is believed to have taken some of the photos that triggered the worldwide scandal over America’s treatment of Iraqi prisoners. His father, Daniel Sivits, said last month that his son “was told to take a picture and he did what he was told.”

2. Yeah - I saw that "In Baghdad" and said the same thing...
Karpinski + 6 has begun. If it spreads into MI, Bush/Rumsfeld are done.

3. So far, by my count, we have two stories explaining the
atrocities in the Iraqi prison. The "official" line, sanctioned by bushco is that we are talking about a "few" bad soldiers who did this, you know, kinda like the "insurgents" in Iraq are just a "few" malcontents who "hate freedom".

the second story, that is being told by the soldiers is that they were following orders. I tend to believe this one. Not that it excuses such reprehensible actions, but a soldier has only two options when given an order. Comply or face charges for insubordination and who knows what else.

The families of these soldiers need to scream LOUD AND LONG. They need to keep screaming and force America to listen.
