Hamill Says Iraq Mission Must Continue
Hamill Says Iraq Mission Must Continue
By KATHY HANRAHAN, Associated Press Writer

MACON, Miss. - Former hostage Thomas Hamill, back home Saturday after his three-week ordeal in Iraq, credited God and worldwide support for his survival and said the rebuilding mission that nearly cost him his life must continue.

"I knew I was going to make it. I knew I was coming home," Hamill told reporters before a prayer vigil held in his honor at the Noxubee County Court House. "I told the Lord to pick the time and place."

Speaking publicly for the first time since his early-morning return to Mississippi, Hamill said daily, multiple prayers reinforced faith that he would survive captivity.

The truck driver was wounded and captured when his convoy was ambushed April 9. He escaped May 2 from a farmhouse about 50 miles north of Baghdad, squeezing open a sheet-metal door and running a half-mile to U.S. military vehicles he had heard rumbling outside.

26. Pour guy hasn't a clue,...he was trying to survive,...
,...in a country that ain't rich on jobs,...buy has very, very (disgustingly) wealthy CEOs being SERVED by this administration which is greedy, could care less about the worth or MERIT of any other human being.

He was also likely "coached",...by his employer,...for his own survival.

Imagine that?

7. This is sickening. He is TORTURED because they brandished
weapons at him and lied to him about releasing him? Are the people at the press CRAZY? What we did to the Iraqis is "Abuse" and to this guy "Torture?"
And then he wants to go back? Well, I bet not after the "Leftist" movie industry sign a deal for this hero's report. Why don't they film the regular Iraqi citizens who were tortured and then pay them a million.

9. quote from the piece
They tortured him by falsely telling him he would be released within several days, shackling him, brandishing weapons and threatening his life, he said.

See if they only dragged him around whereever he was being held, stripped him naked and piled him on top of naked hostages, or put electrodes on him, it would have been an Iraqi frat prank. :eyes: this country is so fucking stupid.

He's a freaking truck driver! Go to any truck stop in America and you find a room filled with red neck truck drivers wanting to kill the 'ragheads'.

What a moron.

They left the idiot to fend for himself in that shack after it was determined he was a waste of their time. I doubt the story of the heroic escape. I wonder when his book is coming out?

23. All this stuff about praying is not news
""I knew I was going to make it.

I wish they would either leave it out, or at least put it at the end of the article where it belongs. It conveys no useful information.
