Calif. state Sen. Pete Knight, prominent gay marriage opponent, dead at 74
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/05/08/obituary1543EDT0563.DTL

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- State Sen. William J. "Pete" Knight, who wrote California's gay marriage ban and took it directly to voters after twice failing to get it through the Legislature, has died of leukemia. He was 74.

Knight died of an acute form of the cancer Friday night at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, his communications director, David Orosco, said Saturday.

Knight, a Republican from Palmdale, had been absent from his seat since April 12 because of his illness.

... Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called Knight "a true Renaissance man." The governor said in a statement that flags would be flown half-staff at the Capitol.

3. I feel bad for his family...
But I find it difficult to work up sympathy for the man himself.

but it is a shame he lived his whole life with a burning hatred of homosexuals.

6. It's too bad for his son, who is of course gay.
I was hoping that Pete Knight would have a last minute revelation. He had even recently bended on domestic partnership issues.

I don't blame the governor for lowering the flags. They would have done so for any sentor's death in office.

I'll never forget the time of the Proposition 22 campaign. It's too bad he'll never live to regret his actions.

9. As the new generations come up
there will be fewer and fewer who believe as this guy did. And that's a good thing.

The genie's just about "out" of the bottle (pun intended) and he ain't going back in.

Now he can begin his days in Hell.

I hope he "enjoys" it.

Scum.

One more down.

Good riddance.

Fuck him and his entire family for the misery he's caused.

12. I like to think that
when we pass from this world into the next, we're suddenly aware of how foolish we've been in various ways.

21. It shouldn't take dying to know that!
It should take a little life experience, some mistakes, some learned compassion.

I am aware quite often that I am foolish. And I ain't dead yet.

17. "Renaissance Man"? Must have been Early Renaissance
or perhaps Dark Ages.

Sometimes God gets it right.
