Iraq weapons 'not likely to be found' (BBC)

Iraq weapons 'not likely to be found'
BBC News Online, 9-10 July 2003

Weapons of mass destruction are no longer likely to turn up in Iraq, the BBC has learned.

BBC political editor Andrew Marr says very senior figures "right at the top of Whitehall" no longer believe the weapons are likely to be found.

...

"They do think there were weapons programmes there, they believe that other stuff - interviews with Iraqi scientists, paperwork, dossiers - that will turn up.

"But the actual weapons, the tubs of the evil stuff, the rusting missiles, no, belief that that will actually be available, can be shown to cameras, that is trickling away very fast at the top of government".

...

4. another reason to believe no WMD exists
Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 05:49 PM by skip fox
Since we've obviously offered all prisoners, even those who were a "facecard," incentives that they couldn't refuse in good faith (save haven in a 3rd country, freedom from prosecution, money, safety for family, etc.), and since none have pointed to anything of note heretofore, we might assume no such weapons exist. That assumption might be wrong, but I offer the above as another compelling reason that indicates our intelligence was wrong and/or "mistated."

5. That Is An Understatement And A Half
Since about '94 at the latest, no such items have been in existence: those at the highest levels of government today are perfectly aware of the that fact, and have been for some while. All their statements to the contrary have been damnable lies, and nothing but lies.

10. Weapons…..sswpeapons….
We don’t need no stinkin weapons….everyone knew they weren’t there. That’s why we attacked. Richard Pearle himself said it would be a cakewalk. Ya think he knew something? Besides, everyone knew he had them at one time and that’s the intel that we were working off of. Shit, the CIA has even said that their best intel was pre `98 (after the inspectors left). And really folks, the focus is on the programmes, not the physical stuff, has been for all of what…30 days now…give or take. And and and we all know that SH had programmes…lots of them. Shame we can’t even get the town drunk to fess up to them…but, that’s what patience is all about. Oh…BTW, we just caught the guy that may link SH to al Qeada….where was I…..Oh…SH was a very evil guy and no one is shedding any teardrops now that he’s gone…besides, SH was a WMD himself….look at all the people he had killed….and…and…shit….the guys in the white coats are here…. :silly:

12. Okay no WMDs in Iraq
No chem, no bio, no nuclear program..as the Niger Forgery makes clear.

So we just invaded a country killing over 6000 innocent civilians, a few hundred Americans and over a thousand Americans have been wounded..including paralysis, loss of limbs, severe burns etc.....for no reason at all, just a pack of lies.

The Widows and orphans should sue the living shit out of the neo-cons who told all of the lies to justify an illegal invasion. Its all on tape, Bunker Dick, Rummy, Wolfowitz, Perle , Adelman......every single one of them should be examined under oath.

This is a huge crime. And we didnt do our allies in the region any favors. What was once a secular country, under severe containment...totally disarmed is now a boiling cauldron of Fundamentalists. Nice job, neo-cons.........

Maybe we should appoint an Independent Council to look into these matters. The illegal invasion of Iraq, killing innocent Iraqi's and Americans, lying to the world and making this great country look like a bunch of fools suggest HIGH CRIMES. Oh sorry, that's only done to the Clintons in an attempt to destroy that administration.

13. Just last evening in c-span coverage, Blair...
before committee, said that the *actual* searchers have just begun and they had to give them time to do their work, oozing confidence that of course they'd be found.

He's amazing. When he talks, you REALLY want to believe him. Very sad.

14. ChillEB's Prognostication ... Plan "D", if you will...
The * administration is quickly finding its little house of cards falling all around them. Plans A (al qaeda), B (WMD) and C ('liberation') are all shot to shit. These guys are down, but don't misunderestimate and count them out just yet.

They have a very viable Plan "D" available, and my forecast is that we will all be seeing it soon.

The novel thing about this particular plan is that it actually involves "telling the truth" (which may be very difficult for these assholes to do, simply on principle) to the people of the USA and the World.

I believe it will unfold thusly:

Some organization that sounds very official (but is actually ad-hoc and assembled (by bushco) for the sole purpose at hand), or some news outlet, is going to release a report forecasting an extremely dire scenario wherein the world will begin to run out of fossil fuels in the not-to-distant future (say, 5-10 years). It will be very graphic and extremely frightening for the average American, who has zero grasp of economics, physics, chemistry, or basic thermodynamics. The US public simply have NO IDEA how absolutely HUGELY dependent we are oil and other fossil fuels to maintain our standard of living. Nor do most realize that there are literally NO alternatives on the immediate horizon, and it is entirely possible that none even EXIST.

In this report, heavy emphasis will be placed on three important facts:
1) The USA is not capable of producing anywhere NEAR the amount of fossil fuels we need to sustain our standard of living in the US.
2) when the world's oil starts to run out, the standard of living in the USA is going to very suddenly, rapidly, and in all likelihood PERMANENTLY DECLINE, and
3) America will become VERY vulnerable (economically and militarily) if we do not have all the fossil fuels that we need to run our military and our economy.

As I said, the odd thing (for this lying gang of thugs) is that this report will largely be factual. I don't see 'naysayers' getting much traction in trying to debunk the report's conclusions. Basically, people are going to buy what this report has to say, if for no other reason, because nobody is going to refute it's content. I imagine that the PNAC folks will be able to arrange an oil shortage/large gas price hike right about the time of the reports release as well, just to seal the deal.

The report will be WIDELY reported and discussed ad nauseum by the TV news and the rest of the right-wing media. It will ALSO be covered extensively by (whats left of) the 'liberal' media, because it will suit our agenda just as much as it does Bush's.

You see, it is critical for bushco that this frightening report be embossed on our collective conscience. Why? Because * is soon to realize that the truth is the only way out of the corner that he and the lying neocons have painted themselves into. * is being left with few options, aside from the truth: we went to war, killed and were killed, for OIL. PERIOD.

The only way he can admit it publically at this point is by frightening American's into accepting the idea that going to war for oil is actually the 'right' thing to do, based on the circumstances. Most folk do not currently realize what is going to happen when the oil runs out. They have no clue how ugly it is going to get for the entire world. I guarantee that bushco will soon see to it that Mr. & Mrs. USA Sixpack are made WELL AWARE of just how ugly it will be, and just how bad their lifes are going to suck if the USA doesn't secure it's supply long into the future.

As an aside, I suspect just such a report has been sitting on *'s desk for quite some time, only to come out as a Plan D if A-C fail. There are powerful interests who do NOT want the public to know what is in store for us if we recklessly burn through the worlds resources. The energy industry, the auto (and auto racing) industry, and the aviation industry are the first to come to mind. These, and certainly many other, industries absolutely DO NOT want Americans to slow down the pace on their consumption of fossil fuels just because we are afraid that the world will run out. It would be very costly for them, and these folks have the governments ear in a big way. But they are not going to get their way when the * brigade's entire collective career is on the line, as it is now. * will not be able to protect their interests if he is impeached, so they are just gonna have to 'understand' why certain things need to be done, that's all there is to it.

This is my prediction. Remember where you heard it first: ChillEB, the prognosticator!
