Army Has Dominated Maj. Gen. Taguba's Life
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Army general whose report on prisoner abuse has rocked the military was born in the Philippines when it was newly freed of U.S. control but still greatly influenced by Americans.

What young Antonio M. Taguba learned from them shaped his ideas about his future home and the Army that would become his life.

~snip~

Just promoted to major general, he was acting director of the Army staff last year when he honored his fellow Asian-Pacific Americans. He was deputy commanding general of the 3rd Army when assigned to investigate reports of wrongdoing among American military jailers in Iraq.

On Friday, the Pentagon announced that Taguba was being reassigned to the office of the assistant secretary of defense for Reserve affairs as deputy assistant secretary of defense for readiness, training and mobilization.

Interesting biography...more interesting his the reassignment. Looks like the Pentagon wants to keeps tab on Taguba.

1. Yup he's done, too bad
The dark curtain is about to descend on anything the military does.

3. This is sad.
Nowadays this is what happens to people of honor and integrity. While PFC England is defended by Rush and the other RW nuts, real heroes like Gen. Toguba will be blackballed. I really hate to see what will happen to Spc. Darby who initially blew the whistle.

4. In Bush's army, only corruption is tolerated
It really isn't all that surprising. With Bush as commander-in-chief, corruption and scandal have become the focus of activities in the military. Men and women of honor and integrity will get pushed aside. It is really a tragedy. It will take many years for the military to recover from all of this.

5. Another Kill the messenger
How very Caesar of them. Another outrage and abuse of power goes unchecked. Nixon paled in comparison to this administration..

6. welcome to NeoCon Land ...
... where all that's left (remains) is what's right - far radical right;
and all that was right (true, and beautiful) has indeed left (gone).

BUT to you, Gen. Taguba, we give heartfelt kudos and our deepest gratitude ... if they do sidewind you into that pentagon, we know that you won't let the PNACers get you down -- eagles don't worry about turkeys!

7. Neo-Con land, more like SS Fascists land. Soon - the will disappear
or die in tragic plane crashes that go unsolved.

8. Can anyone find an email address for him

I've read his complete report (the 54 page summary). It's a very
good job (even if full of Mil speak).

It must just make his blood boil that Miller gets a command (at
Abu Ghraid no less) and he is likely being shuttled aside, his
career over.

In any case, we all owe him a big, non-partisan, thank you for doing
a difficult job (and assigning blame where it should stick).

It is my personal opinion that we owe him a *lot* more, in that I am
pretty sure that HE is the person who called CBS and gave them the
report and the pictures... and when that got blocked by the
bushistas, he called Sy and gave HIM the story... prompting CBS to
finally air the piece or risk getting scooped. Anyway, if he did
or did not leak this, he is a true hero in my eyes. I hope he retires
and gets a book deal or something (not likely).

Email address? I've looked around at www.army.mil but to no avail.

10. I read the entire report also...
And I think if he can hold on for 6 months, he'll do just fine.

According to what is on the net and another thread, A Sgt Fredricks' uncle contacted many people trying to tell the story that the MP guards were instructed to "soften up" the prisoners. The uncle was the one who gave the pictures to CBS.

The Taguba report has more credibility, IMHO, than anything that has come out of the bush administration, or anyone else for that matter.
