Bomb kills three Iraqis; gunmen wound cop

BAQOUBA, Iraq (AP) — Attackers set off a bomb outside the house of a police official Saturday, killing three members of his family and wounding three others, while gunmen wounded a policeman in an attack on a nearby town, officials said.

The bomb attack occurred in the town of Habhab, 12 miles north of Baqouba, with the blast hitting the home of a police non-commissioned officer, Muayyad Ayad. Two women and a male relative were killed, said Nasser Jawad, a doctor at Baqouba hospital.

In the town of Muqdadiyah, 20 miles north of Baqouba, three gunmen opened fire on the house of the town mayor, sparking a gunbattle with his security guards. One policeman was wounded.

Baqouba, 25 miles north of Baghdad, is in the so-called Sunni Triangle, the heartland of the anti-U.S. guerrilla insurgency that has targeted American troops as well as Iraqis seen as cooperating with the U.S.-led occupation.
