7. To quote Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham
Oh my.

That's bold. It's one thing for long-time incumbants to do it, but Kerry has a lot to lose.

Can't wait to see if he said "Rumsfield should resign," or if he qualified it, like "Rumsfield shoud resign if it is proven that..."

10. Kerry Should Stay out of that and Call for B*'s Resignation!
B* is responsible for what is happening in Iraq - he is the "cheerleader" who promotes the Iraq invasion for oil. B* is responsible for the deaths and torture that occurs there on a daily basis!!

22. I agree he sould stay out of it. because...
I wouldn't want one of these criminals to take the fall for the whole gang.
Asking for one or another resignation plays into a limited culpability scenario.
Kerry should push a clean sweep agenda and hit each member of the cabinet hard. Attack the records. Name names. Everyone is culpable.
But unfortunately that includes the democratic leadership so I’m sure he'll stick to the script that limits the damage all around.

27. I disagree...Kerry has to define what he would do as President...
in the same situation...In this yahoo article Kerry waxed the perfect tone":

BOLTON, Calif. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Thursday if he were president he would not be "the last to know what is going on in my command," a criticism of the Bush administration's handling of reports of abuse of prisoners held by U.S. forces in Iraq.

...yes, yes, yes!

"These despicable actions have endangered the lives of our soldiers and, frankly, have made their mission harder to accomplish," Kerry said during a campaign appearance at a California high school. "We cannot succeed in Iraq by abandoning the values that define America."

...exactly..

White House aides have said the president was not told about photos showing prisoners being abused before they were aired on television or about a Pentagon report issued in March before it turned up in the news.

...yeah, well we'll see about that...a little hard to believe!

Kerry said:

"As president, I will not be the last to know what is going on in my command," Kerry said. "I will demand accountability for those who serve and I will take responsibility for their actions. And I will do everything that I can in my power to repair the damage that this has caused to America to our standing in the world and to the ideals for which we stand."

25. John Kerry does call for Rummy's resignation
Kerry also renewed his call for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's resignation. The Massachusetts senator, who called for Rumsfeld to step down months ago over his handling of the Iraq war, said the abuse reports compound the situation.

"It's the way it was handled. The lack of information to the Congress, the lack of information to the country, not managing it, not dealing with it, recognizing it as an issue. But look this is, this is the frosting," Kerry said. "I think Iraq and the miscalculation and the overextension of the armed forces and the entire way in which they rushed the nation to war under these assumptions that he was making - which were incorrect - is a huge, historic miscalculation and I thought he should have resigned then."
