Bush Asks Congress for $25B for Iraq War
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040506/ap_on_go_pr_wh/iraq_spending&cid=544&ncid=716

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration asked Congress Wednesday for a $25 billion down payment for next year's U.S. operations in Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites), a retreat from the White House's earlier plans not to seek the money until after the November elections.

The money — half of what White House officials have said they expect to need for 2005 — is designed to carry the military through the first months of the new budget year, which starts next Oct. 1. Congress is likely to be adjourned for much of that period, and the Army in particular would be expected to face a cash crunch unless funds were approved beforehand.

"While we do not know the precise costs for operations next year, recent developments on the ground and increased demands on our troops indicate the need to plan for contingencies," President Bush (news - web sites) said in a statement. "We must make sure there is no disruption in funding and resources for our troops."

2. What do they do with the $500 billion the DOD gets every year?
And we still don't know where all this money is going. There is no accounting. No invoices.

6. OK, help me out here guys.
So far, we've spent $160 billion on the war in Iraq. About 4 weeks ago, Bush went back to Congress and asked for $75 billion in additional funding.

Two weeks ago, the Pentagon revised its figures and said the war is actually costing us $4.9 billion per month, as opposed to $4.2 billion per month. It seems that those pesky Iraqis are forcing us to spend more than we budgeted for. Are these figures correct?

If this keeps up, our treasury will be wiped out by the end of next year.
