Mexico Recalls Ambassador From Cuba
Looks like Vicente is another satellite of the boy king.

-------snip---------
MEXICO CITY - Mexico recalled its ambassador from Cuba and will expel Cuba's ambassador after officials concluded the communist-run government interfered in Mexico internal affairs, Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez announced Sunday.

The diplomatic furor came as relations soured over Mexico's supporting a U.N. rebuke of Cuba's human rights record. A day earlier, in his annual May Day speech, Cuban leader Fidel Castro (news - web sites) denounced Mexico over the vote and said it had lost the ability to act independently.

Derbez said the respective ambassadors have 48 hours to leave their posts. The decision stops short of severing diplomatic ties but reduces contacts to the level of business attache.

President Vicente Fox (news - web sites) took action after officials discovered that Cuban Communist party members entered Mexico on diplomatic passports and held a "political reunion" with others without going through diplomatic channels, Interior Secretary Santiago Creel said. He did not say with whom the officials met.

2. Hmm that is why
Vicente actually ordered the Office of Foreign Affairs to VOTE AGAINST the authorization for the US to go to war.

Now has it occured to you that Cuba has indeed interfered in Mexican Affairs? They have, but this tells me that this is the most serious incident IN YEARS. And btw, Fidel is making a mistake, as Mexico is the sole true remaining ally in Latin America, that has been there from day one that is

4. Boy, has Bush pushed hard for that
Bush made a weak promise he knew he couldn't keep, nor did he try particularly hard to keep it, and Fox Quesada was hurt bad at home for it. Fox is no fan of Bush's - Bush screwed him over - and that's why he opposed the Iraq war when everything in Mexico's political history suggested he would support it.

5. Correct
I think this expulsion has far more to do with Cuba-Mexico relations than anything else

Now will George TAKE ADVANTAGE of a "historic oportunity?" You betcha... even if this is not Bush's doing, rather some staffer with an eye for the trouble brewing and the fact that Mexico would not, for once, opose the US regarding Cuba.

in Havana, James Cason:

http://www.cubasocialista.cubaweb.cu/texto/galer1.htm

They show Cason meeting with Cuban "dissidents" in his garden, his house, at the home of a Cuban "dissident" with a group of Cuban young adults he has formed into a group, the "Cuban Young Liberal Party."

Cuban "agents" were working for years in such capacities as the secretary for this Cuban well known "dissident," Marta Beatriz Rocque:

Here she is having a drama moment with a "Deputy Principal Officer, Louis Nigro."

Here she's reading a statement to the foreign and domestic press with James Cason breathing down her neck, overseeing every moment.

In court, the "secretary" who has handled Marta Beatriz Rocque's correspondence, business details, etc. for YEARS testified concerning payments to Rocque from various entities in the U.S., with names, dates, amounts which left no doubt the woman was on the U.S. payroll. Rocque's in the slammer now.

Reconsider the charges against the Cuban diplomat in Mexico, and see if you would imagine he is conducting ANYTHING comparable to the kind of heavy-handed meddling the Bush State Department's been involved in in Cuba and other Latin American countries.

How do you think our State Department would take it if another country's ambassador and staff started organizing its own political party in our country. Just think about it. It wouldn't be pretty.

6. Let's see how the Mexican people react to this
Not all is said and done regarding this incident. Mexicans have to weigh in on this, and they know all about the US's unfair treatment of Cuba, and the US's illegal use (& non use) of diplomatic channels there. Cubans and Mexicans have a strong bond. Fox may be pandering now, but he's a flip-flopper just like W*'s Crime Inc.. The people and journalists have yet to weigh in on this accusation of the so called ""political reunion" with others without going through diplomatic channels" bullshit, and when the spotlight gets turned on this I can just about guarantee that cockroaches will scurry back to D.C..

7. It is a pretty confusing story
But Fox's reason for recalling the ambassador is rather vague:

"officials discovered that Cuban Communist party members entered Mexico on diplomatic passports and held a "political reunion" with others without going through diplomatic channels"

I guess that could be anything from plotting revolution to going for coffee with an old buddy. You would think a serious step like recalling an ambassador would have more precise grounds attached. Diplomatic language is like that, I suppose.

Still, one has to wonder if some Bush related shenanigans are in the background here.

9. An article posted at D.U. last week shows the Mexican people feel apart
from Vicente Fox's official position towards Cuba:
Poll: Mexicans believe country's vote against Cuba due to U.S. pressure

ASSOCIATED PRESS
8:40 a.m. April 19, 2004

MEXICO CITY – Mexico's key U.N. vote against Cuba's human rights record may have created resentment here against the United States, according to a poll published Monday.

In the poll sponsored by the newspaper Milenio, 80 percent of those questioned said U.S. pressure led to Mexico's April 15 vote at the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva. Twenty percent said the vote was due to the Mexican government's concern for human rights in Cuba.
