Army corrects account of Lynch ambush
<http://www.sunspot.net/news/nationworld/bal-lynch0709,0,37973.story?coll=bal-nationworld-headlines>

WASHINGTON -- The Army company that included Pvt. 1st Class Jessica Lynch was ambushed after the soldiers, tired and isolated, became lost in the city of Nasiriyah with guns that jammed, radios that malfunctioned and heavy trucks that sank into soft sand, the Army has concluded.
But while early reports suggested that she bravely tried to fight her way out of the ambush, the Army now has determined that she never fired her weapon and instead was "severely injured" after her Humvee was hit by gunfire and slammed into an Army tractor-trailer.

This was truly, a black-eye for the Army and who ever the over-zealous PR asshole that concocted that original story should be strung up by his balls. I hope the media now leaves Jessica and her family alone.

17. Gov. Robert Wise (D) promised her the scholarship
He's a good man and I'm sure he'll honor his pledge. I just feel so sorry for her. She had nothing to do with any of this and this unnecessary controversy must have made her life even more difficult than it already is.

Things can change rather quickly in Hollywood.

4. What about the 8 marines who got killed trying to rescue her?
They are still not telling the whole story. Follow the links below and you can put together the pieces of an interesting puzzle. The whole operation at Nasiriyah was a major FUBAR. This is why Rummie paid Saddam's folks not to fight us in Bagdad. It would have been a disaster. The real Jessica Lynch story makes Black Hawk Down look like a roudy party.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/story/72054p-66800c.html

A daring American raid behind enemy lines rescued Army POW Jessica Lynch from the clutches of her Iraqi captors - giving a huge morale boost for the war effort and a glorious day of thanksgiving for her desperate family. But joy was tempered by reports that Pfc. Lynch was found wounded, along with the bodies of two other American soldiers.

<snip>

A previous rescue attempt went badly. A team of Marines who tried to rescue the missing soldiers on the day of the ambush managed to bring back several wounded men, but nine Marines were killed and eight went missing.

Nine Marines were killed in an Iraqi ambush March 23 near the city of An Nasiriyah in southeastern Iraq. Military officials in Qatar said the Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marines were riding in an armored vehicle when it was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. Officials said the Marines were attacked after Iraqi forces pretended to surrender.

Other Marines repelled the attack, in which 40 Marines were wounded.

Friendly Fire May Have Killed Lejeune Marines

Nine N.C.-based Marines killed Sunday in the battle for Nasiriyah may have been victims of friendly fire, not Iraqis pretending to surrender as originally believed.

<snip>

Officials at the U.S. Central Command in Qatar would say only that friendly fire is an unfortunate reality of war and that they're still looking into the deaths of the nine Marines based at Camp Lejeune in Eastern North Carolina.

On Sunday, Army Lt. Gen. John Abizaid said the Marines were killed during heavy fighting inside the city after a small group of Iraqi solders indicated they wanted to give themselves up. They then fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the Marines' amphibious assault vehicle, according to what witnesses told journalists with the unit.

But a military source told The Washington Post that early indications suggest the nine may have been hit by an A-10 Thunderbolt II plane providing air support, whose pilot mistook them for Iraqi fighters.

6. All the liars are back-pedaling like crazy.
I think all of this is happening because something else, something much bigger, is about to be disclosed; something that could topple the regime.

Next: Watch for rats jumping ship. There have been a few already.

.....his next stop will be to the funeral parlor. The mortician will not be able to make Dick Cheney's face a smiling face while lying in the casket.

However, I smell fear. More fear than I've smelled since the Trickster went down. If the press turns, the regime is toast.

The propaganda aspect. I think the curtain needs to be lifted on the information machine that's accompanying this war. There's something not quite right there.

16. Yep, the other big story: Weapons Did Not Fire
The 507th was allegedly supplied with a particular lubricant for their weapons, CLP, which has been claimed, among those who've been there, to attract the type of sand found in the Iraq/Kuwait area and cause jamming. There are, allegedly, better lubricants available that do not attract the sand. And, allegedly, this was all known long before the troops got to Iraq.

Interesting e-mail exchange on the subject here.

19. seems like it to me...
first they say she was ambushed...then it was they got lost and stuck in the sand..

she was shot, stabbed, and slapped around in the hospital...which wasn't true...
she fired on her attackers till she ran out of ammo...not true...

A doctor said that Iraqi troops were gone and there was no reason to go in with the Rambo tactics...

I'm kind of curious how this movie will turn out...probably a load of crap if you ask me...

just like the * 9/11 movie...does anyone know if Silver Screen Management...that's the same company that he worked for who funded several R-rated flicks...?

23. No WAY?!? MORE LIES???
Golly, I sure am SURPRISED!

I mean, this is only about the 497th (publically known) lie that has come from the government since * usurped the presidency by judicial coup 2.5 years ago. I mean, thats less than one every other day, a pretty solid record, if you ask me. I mean, just what the hell do you people WANT from your government, anyway? The TRUTH? You can't handle the truth ...

24. This is what I've been saying since the "story" broke about Lynch
I never once thought she was in a gunfight, the wounds sounded like those received from a car crash. It's really low of the Army to "sex up" what happen to Jessica. I feel sorry for her and her family.
