President defends address: 'We're making progress, you bet'
By Sean Loughlin
CNN Washington Bureau
Friday, April 30, 2004 Posted: 1804 GMT (0204 HKT)

(snip)
My fellow Americans," Bush intoned May 1, 2003. "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed." (Gallery: The carrier landing)

Since that speech, close to 600 U.S. troops have died in Iraq, including more than 420 in hostile action. (Special Report: U.S. deaths in Iraq)

"Iraq has become a quagmire," Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts said in a speech Thursday on the Senate floor. "It may well go down as the worst blunder in the entire history of American foreign policy."

But Bush defended the speech as he talked to reporters Friday during a Rose Garden appearance with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.

3. So this is what we teach now
that even though soldiers are still dying, it's considered over. All you have to do is say "Mission Accomplished" and dance around in a flight suit and people will forget what an ass you are.

ahh hell. People are more concerned right now about Michael Jackson and his problem, yet we refuse to honor our dead on a half-hour tv show.................I believe God didn't talk to Bush, the Devil did, and now God is trying to show old W the light of what he has done and W is still too stupid to see it.

4. Didn't we read somewhere that
the WH added "major" to the speech after the fact, as in "combat is over" which now reads "major combat is over"?

6. I have never seen any indication where his handlers
ever beat him down and told him he was dumb. On the contrary, he seems to come up with or at least, extends his policies and makes them happen.

11. The insane liar can't even keep dates straight:
He said: ""A year ago, I did give the speech from the carrier saying that we had achieved an important objective, that we had accomplished a mission, which was the removal of Saddam Hussein,"

When was Saddam caught?
