Iraqis offer bounty for US officials
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/9298BD92-7121-4C1A-AB3D-882ED6DE3E8E.htm

<snip>
Resistance fighters in the Iraqi city of Falluja have placed a $15 million bounty on the heads of key US occupation figures, including Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld.

The reward is also offered for the capture of US Commander in Iraq, Lieutenant-General Ricardo Sanchez and US occupation forces' spokesperson in the country, Brigadier Mark Kimmit.

A leaflet displaying pictures of the three wanted men offers "15 000 000 $ as a reward who bring one of these three heads (sic)". The "Islamic resistance in Iraq" is asked to be contacted.

Leaflets were distributed in Falluja after US occupation forces' heavy bombardment of the city overnight on Tuesday.

Are there members of the Iraqi resistance that can only read English?

Does this smell to anyone else?

9. Rove! Rove! Rove! He's everywhere...aaarrrrggghhh run away!!!!
The true genius of Rove's plan comes into play when they try to collect and the "resistance" can't pony up the cash. That will turn the people against them. GENIUS!!

maybe they don't exclude anyone from claiming? I'm sure some service people could use $15M since they aren't going to be taken care of so well once they get back home....but seriously that is a bit fishy

22. To appeal to US soldiers, that's why.
That's what I would think. But more realistically, this is a political statement rather than a military tactic.

Let our soldiers know there's a price on their commanders' heads, get them to wondering if the resistance will soon put a price on any American head?

33. It's not just for the Iraqi resistance, ya know?
Looks like an open invitation to me. Who knows, maybe there are some mercenary bodyguards who could turn on their employers, or even a disgruntled soldier who could be convinced to do some fragging?

Whether or not the Iraqis can read english, you know damn well the American occupation leaders don't read Arabic, and this is at least partly an intimidation tactic.

That's the most amateur photoshop job these amateur eyes have ever seen.

Seriously.... take another look...

And, does anyone have an address or phone number for "The Islamic resistance offices in Iraq?" Could the resistance appeals for contacts be more vague?

Try harder, Rummy. Try harder.

31. (sic)? Maybe they mean heads literally.
The part that is suspicious if that they use the word "contact" and give the name of something that can't possibly exist in the form it is described "iraqi resistance offices" (yeah, you know, in the strip mall beside McDonalds) and then don't give any contact information. Maybe it's an inside joke.

40. Wanted: Rumsfeld, Sanchez and Kimmitt
Cairo - Hundreds of leaflets distributed in the embattled western Iraqi town of Fallujah on Wednesday offered a $15-million (about R60-million) reward for anyone who kills any of three top American officials involved in operations in Iraq.

The leaflets, reported by the Qatar-based al-Jazeera and other electronic media, show pictures of United States Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, top US General in Iraq Ricardo Sanchez and General Mark Kimmitt, who acts as military spokesperson in Iraq.
