US sets limits to Iraqi self-rule

The US has warned that the new government due to take power in Iraq on 1 July will have to delegate some of its powers to the coalition (sic: occupation).

Secretary of State Colin Powell said it was important that coalition (sic: occupation) troops continued to operate under US command.

His comments came after a day of heavy fighting in Falluja, where US soldiers and Iraqi security forces are due to begin joint patrols on Tuesday.
