Allen, Kaine Clash in 1st Debate of Va Senate Race.

Two Virginia governors clashed in their first debate of the 2012 U.S. Senate race over showing respect for President Barack Obama.

Republican George Allen, a former governor who served a term in the Senate before he was unseated in 2006, chided Democrat Tim Kaine for heading the Democratic National Committee in his last year as governor. Allen said Kaine advocated "for the likes of not only President Obama's policies but also those of Nancy Pelosi."

Kaine interrupted, "The likes of President Obama?" He said Allen's reference showed a lack of respect for the Democratic president.

I remember Krauthammer, sitting on TV with his bare face hanging out, spluttering over how everyone was supposedly being unfair to this poor Rethug, when it turns out "macacca" means something innocuous in ....wait for it....Italian.

"After two weeks of negative publicity, Allen publicly apologized for his statement and asserted that he in no way intended those words to be offensive. The term "Macacawitz," referring to the September 2006 discovery of Allen's Jewish heritage, was coined by conservative pundit John Podhoretz and was widely used afterwards. A campaign staffer for Democratic Congressional candidate Al Weed used the phrase and was fired for her comment."

5. I just read Kaine's wiki. Very interesting. Among many other things, we have a fair housing

advocate running against macaca man, in one of life's ironies.
