The Kansas-based new owners of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co. want to make one thing perfectly clear: Their purchase is a railroad deal, pure and simple.

"We're poised to help the economy of Wisconsin take off," says Ed McKechnie, spokesman for Watco Transportation Services....

But given the political activity of WSOR founder Bill Gardner — who has admitted to $70,000 in illegal and excessive campaign contributions to Gov. Scott Walker and others and was sentenced to two years' probation — some wondered if there was more to the story.

1. Walker doesn't regard those campaign donations as illegal. Just fascist bribes.

2. Without question, this is hush money.
Bill Gardner sold off his business to the Koch Brothers because the Koch Brothers don't want him to sing a corruption tune that could cost them one heck of a lot more than his little money pit railroad. I would bet Gardner blackmailed the brothers, with the understanding he would keep his mouth shut in exchange for this deal. Gardner lost lots of potential business when the Walker boy ended the high speed rail project for Wisconsin.
