Preacher Billy Graham admitted to NC hospital
Source: Associated Press

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The Rev. Billy Graham was admitted to a hospital Wednesday near his home in western North Carolina to be tested for pneumonia after suffering from congestion, a cough and a slight fever, his spokesman said.

The 93-year-old evangelist was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville, spokesman A. Larry Ross said. His personal physician, Dr. Lucian Rice, said he was in stable condition.

A news release issued by the hospital said Graham was alert, smiling and waving to staff as he entered the hospital. Ross said Graham was admitted for observation and treatment and likely would spend the night there.

For six decades, Graham led a worldwide crusade-based ministry that packed stadiums with believers and allowed him to counsel every U.S. president since Harry Truman. His most recent book, "Nearing Home," was published last month.

4. yep, interesting alright
I saw this preacher man a long time ago. I remember when they were passing the holy basket around for the collection after hearing him praise the lord, etc.

I was not impressed, I remember that much.

Why I was there I no longer remember thank god for that!

He is very old now as you can tell from the picture. More pictures of others when you click on that link. ...

7. Apparently, Billy is in no hurry to go to the Light.
I would think that preachers and priests would always be the quickest to go because they have such a vested interest in being with God. Doesn't seem to be the case, though.

10. Billy Graham was the final straw that turned me an atheist 35 years ago.
I was forced by my parents to listen to him preach at San Diego Stadium in 1976. I went to bed an atheist.

Actually I was an atheist before I completed reading the first page of some pamphlet they gave me. It was obvious BS.

So Billy Graham is special to me. He ended my constant worry of hell (child abuse by religion).

12. He was on a plane with the mother of one of my sister's employees once..
She was leaving her abusive jerk of a husband and asked him for counseling. He told her that she should stay with him and keep praying that their marriage would improve and gawd would make it happen. Even after she told him that he'd broken some ribs and one had punctured her lung after a beating. No matter. Don't leave him. Don't deprive a father of his children. She stayed with the bastard for another ten years of abuse. Why do people listen to those snake oil salesmen?

13. Why would anybody want someone to stay with an abusive husband?
http://www.billygraham.org/articlepage.asp?articleid=7609

"Nothing in the Bible requires someone to stay in a life-threatening situation -- not at all."

14. My sister's employee is in her late 40s.
So, I'm certain her mother is at least quite a bit older. This must have happened decades ago and I'm sure Graham's marital advise has evolved quite a bit as spousal abuse has been dragged from the closet to the public eye. At least he didn't blame her for her marital problems like a pastor once blamed my former daughter-in-law when my son was unfaithful to her. Too many evangelicals are still castigating women for the Sin of Eve. And even today, I don't know why women stay in abusive relationships. Low self-esteem and pathological co-dependence can only explain so much.

17. Bruce Dickinson has something to say about Billy Graham
"Only the good die young
All the evil seem to live forever
Only the good die young."

(Iron Maiden's Only the Good Die Young)

Billy Graham is 93 years old, so they've got a point.
