Jordan: Syria fires at family fleeing to Jordan

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — A government official says Syria has shot and wounded a Syrian woman as she and her family crossed a fence into neighboring Jordan.
The official says Jordanian border patrols fired in the air to help the three-member family get away but did not exchange fire with the Syrian army.
The woman, wounded in her leg, was taken to a nearby hospital. Her husband and child escaped unharmed.
The official said the three crossed a fence near the northern border Sunday, "fleeing hardships" in their country and "seeking asylum" in Jordan.'

The Syrian government is desperately trying to prevent anyone from escaping Syria. I guess they are afraid of the Hague.Too late now.

1. That was incredibly dumb for them to do.

When you have people in civil war against the government and have repeatedly said they are smuggling in weapons to kill soldiers, crossing a border outside of a checkpoint is not smart at all.

as was clearly discerned by the Jordanian Border Security.

This is no civil war btw, at least not yet. Before the Army entered Hama there was not one death , not one death in the City , despite hundred's of thousands of demonstrators taking the streets every week.

Don't tell me you believe the "Armed Gangs" bullshit story of the despot Syrian government.

I am very curious what will your comments on Syria be like after Assad falls , as he inevitably will.

3. How many civilians did US soldiers kill in Iraq?

Assad may fall but not anytime soon.

When you have two armed factions of poeople killing each other in a country, it's a civil war. Why do you think it was stupid for them to do it. The people trying to overthrow the government have yapped continiously of how they are training in neighboring countries and smuggling weapons to kill soldiers.

4. links ? or are you making stuff up : I have been following this for months now and all I know is

the Free Syrian Army , which has nothing to do with the peaceful unarmed demonstrators gunned down everyday . It is mainly composed of soldiers defecting after getting orders to "shoot to kill" unarmed protesters.

Only yesterday 40 civilians died in Homs.

The Syrian Army has the tanks and heavy weapons anyway, so that you keep harping about "two armed factions" is kind of silly. Until the FSA has more hefty weaponry THEN it will turn into a civil war.

And Assad has two months tops , if not weeks. You are welcome to bookmark this post, I will.

Those are refugees , escaping from a despot country with a total media blackout and propaganda machine out of Goebbels and the Stasi. Escaping from a country where one word can have you tortured and disappeared, so that even your family is SCARED to inquire about you.

I know , because it happened to close family.

6. It's problematic because armed elements are violating the border from Jordan.

The armed elements are not being restrained by the Jordanian border police. It's not surprising that the Syrian military would be extremely wary of illegal border crossings, with the flow of armed elements and weapons across the border. There are a lot of these soldiers who are losing their lives.

This looks a lot more like Nicaragua in the 80s than Libya several months ago.

The would-be insurgents do not exercise state power in any part of Syria itself. They use neighboring countries to launch attacks yielding many casualties, as the Nicaraguan contras did in the 80s - hence my comparison.
