Sounds like a life well lived. I have no problem with the money he made.

3. Old-fashioned conservative: Worked hard, was honest, gave much to the community.
You know, the kind of Republican that has completely ceased to exist.

Glad Bill Milliken is still with us. There's not many decent Republicans of a bygone era left.

9. There's number three...
Maggie Daley, Jeno Paulucchi (Jeno's Pizza Rolls) and now Fred.

And Dick Cheney's battery-powered sump pump keeps on pushing the slush...

12. What?
What the hell is that supposed to mean? Fred Meijer mentioned with Dick Cheney. Perhaps you should read about Fred's life and learn a little but about what a remarkable, humble, and generous man he was.

13. Let me explain.
it was an illustration in contrasts.
Decent man like Fred Meijer dies.
Piece of shit like Dickhead Cheney keeps living.

Do you understand now, or do I need to type it slower?

10. Incredible man
Fred was one of a kind and loved people. He never thought he was one lick better than anyone and never treated anyone like he was. Fred and his wife still lived in the modest home they built in 1967 not far from where I grew up. They were billionaires, but Mrs. Meijer could never leave her prized rose bushes for a bigger house. Fred didn't need to flaunt his money and was happy to give help to so many causes.

Our town of Grand Rapids has been home to 3 Billionaire families and Meijer has given as much as anyone, but he always did it with humility and little fanfare. The other 2 families would have huge PR campaigns whenever they donated anything and would always insist that their family name be on anything they gave to no matter what portion of it they paid for. While the other families have done much for Grand Rapids and we are very thankful there is a general impression here that Fred Meijer was much more sincere in his philanthropy.

RIP to a good man and a friend to anyone who ever met him.
