Dozens of missing screws discovered on Air France plane
Source: NY Daily News

A super-stretch jet operated by Air France-KLM Group was grounded this month in Boston after 30 screws were found missing from a protective panel between its fuselage and wing.

The Airbus A340, a four-engine plane with a capacity of 360 passengers, underwent maintenance in China and stopped at Air France’s main Paris hub before the missing screws were spotted in Boston.

It appeared the jet made at least one flight, the trans-Atlantic journey between Charles de Gaulle Airport and Boston, without the screws, but the airline is still working to determine when exactly the hardware disappeared.

The screws secure a panel intended to reduce drag during flight.

1. Awesome.
Now they can omit those screws from all future production runs and save some money.

6. It worked for Muntz
Muntz TV

Muntz developed a television chassis that produced an acceptable monochrome picture with 17 tubes. He often carried a pair of wire clippers, and when he thought that one of his employees was "over-engineering" a circuit, he would begin snipping components out until the picture or sound stopped working. At that point, he would tell the engineer "Well, I guess you have to put that last part back in" and walk away.

12. Thanks for the link.
Most of that was before my time, but it's interesting historically. Can you imagine - in this day and age - someone who owns an electronics store being a player in any major US market? I think that Steve Wozniak was the last to be involved in anything close, and he bowed out long ago.

5. How can they be found AND missing?

Much of what I understood about the English language is apparently in error.
