Malaysian ‘tribunal’ finds Bush, Blair guilty of war crimes

By David Edwards
Wednesday, November 23, 2011

A symbolic tribunal in Malaysia ruled unanimously Tuesday that former U.S. President George W. Bush and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair were both guilty of “crimes against peace” for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal, part of an initiative by former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad – a fierce critic of the Iraq war – found the former leaders guilty after a four-day hearing.

While the court is modeled after the post-World War II Nuremberg Tribunal, it carries no legal weight.

“War criminals have to be dealt with — convict Bush and Blair as charged,” a statement from Mahathir’s Perdana Global Peace Foundation said. “A guilty verdict will serve as a notice to the world that war criminals may run but can never ultimately hide from truth and justice.”

6. The article said that this carries no legal weight. So how could bounty hunters or
process servers do any good? How can they serve Bush or Blair based upon a procedure that has no legal weight?

12. With those two, I'd be happy if they went straight to the "carry out the sentence" stage.
(I trust that the penalty for war crimes would be no more lenient than
for drug smuggling?)

10. I agree, but Mahatir was a de facto dictator.
You criticize him, and you go to jail, particularly if you're not Malay.

11. Third world fools don't understand looking only forward. That's why they are third world while we
are only on our way from being Number 1 to being a third world nation.

And we may be the first nation to accomplish that, at least in modern times.

American exceptionalism.

13. Take a look at this and related KOS diaries
There was a diary on the rec list that says that says "Bush, Blair, Found Guilty of War Crimes". It then proceeds to quote the Iranian regime propaganda organ Press TV about some "war crimes tribunal".

That "war crimes tribunal" turned out to be a meaningless meeting of notorious truthers and antisemites. There was no actual tribunal and no trial.

And Press TV is a propaganda piece of trash that claims that Jews harvest organs.

It would be great to see some real indictments, but these aren't.
