CLEVELAND - Americans seem to be mired in pessimism when it comes to how they feel about the country today and a year from now, according to new national poll.

The CNN/ORC International Poll released Thursday revealed 74 percent believe things are going pretty badly or very badly in the country today. Only 2 percent of people surveyed say things are going very well in the country.

Women were a little more pessimistic than men about how the country is doing today, with 49 percent saying things were going pretty badly, compared to 43 percent of men.

People who made more money also were more pessimistic about the country today - 51 percent of people making more than $50,000 said things were going pretty badly, while 41 percent of people making less than $50,000 said the same.
