ACLU sues over pot license plate
Source: Omaha World Herald

By Paul Hammel

LINCOLN — An attempt to promote a petition initiative to legalize marijuana via a state-issued personalized license plate has gone to pot — and has ignited a lawsuit.

The Nebraska ACLU announced Thursday it is suing the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles for censorship after it rejected a plate reading, "NE420."

The plate was requested by Frank Shoemaker of Holbrook, Neb., a leader in a petition to place a measure on the 2012 state ballot to legalize marijuana. He said the plate would serve as an "educational aid" to the campaign, according to the ACLU's lawsuit.

Bev Neth, head of the Motor Vehicles Department, rejected the request, saying the number "420" was associated with "a date and time for people to gather and smoke marijuana/cannabis."

1. Let me guess... Bev is a NO Tax T-bagger?

NE is the abbreviation for Nebraska.
So on 4/20 everyone in NE will stop and light up a home roll?

What a bone head.

12. Odds are the Teabagger is the pot advocate.
Bev is probably your typical career bureaucrat Republican/Democrat party mainliner. Marijuana reform advocates have been welcomed with open arms at the local Teaparty rallies in Kentucky. Can't say the same about Republican or Democratic rallies. There are only two politicians here who support reform - one is a standing Republican US Senator (Rand Paul), the other is a perennially unsuccessful independent candidate for state office with strong libertatrian leanings (Gatewood Galbraith).

5. How many people, for there to be a 50% chance of 2 sharing a birthday.
The answer is 23.

Sometimes a date is just a date.

16. Oblivion. The same bloody place as anyone else who blindly & totally invests...
...themselves in another - Hitler, Jesus, or just plain domineering spouse.

Reform the "Golden rule" - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Try: DO NOT do unto others, that which you WOULD NOT have done unto you.

Seemingly the same semantically, but in fact hugely different. The first anticipates deliberately unfaithful behaviour and gets in first, the second dares the breaking of faith.

4. Too many Puritans in America still. Pathetic. Grow up you nutcases.
God damnit this makes my blood boil. This is the mentality that made America a crap nation. Not that it's all crap. But Bush crap. The mentality that let Reagan in office. The mentality that let the Fairness Doctrine death go unnoticed.

11. Maybe you're forgetting Obama & Biden are fanatical drug warriors.
Have you noticed the Justice Department's current war on medical cannabis? Hard to pin that on Reagan, Bush or any Republicans.

Rabid prohibitionists dominate both parties. Anyone care to name the current Congresspersons & Senators that are on record supporting the ending of the war against marijuana?

14. True. True. I try to give them credit for some invisible force that is fighting them.
But you made a good point. Time to shed the political skin with the help of the OWS movement. I'm hoping it's a repeal-olution.

13. Apart from the free speech argument, who would actually want ...
... a license plate that would make police want to pull you over and search your car?
