Australia prison hostage drama in Hobart

A prison guard has been taken hostage by a group of inmates in a maximum-security wing of a jail in Australia, reports say.

Another guard had also been snatched earlier, but he was freed after hours of negotiations at the Risdon Prison in Hobart, Tasmania.

Reports said the prisoners were using makeshift weapons such as razor blades.

The hostage drama at Hobart's Risdon Prison is over after the second of two guards being held by inmates was released unharmed and the prisoners surrendered.

The situation began when two maximum-security prisoners took the guards hostage at 10am (AEDT) inside a jail cell.

The first guard was released earlier in the afternoon and was physically unharmed.
