Without consent: how drugs companies exploit Indian 'guinea pigs'
Source: The Independent Monday 14 November 2011 GMT

Illiterate patients say they never agreed to take part in trials run by industry worth £189m

Western pharmaceutical companies have seized on India over the past five years as a testing ground for drugs – making the most of a huge population and loose regulations which help dramatically cut research costs for lucrative products to be sold in the West. The relationship is so exploitative that some believe it represents a new colonialism.

Since restrictions on drug trials were relaxed in 2005, the industry in India has swollen to the point where today more than 150,000 people are involved in at least 1,600 clinical trials, conducted on behalf of British, American and European firms including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Merck. There may be more.

While there is no official figure, some estimates suggest the industry may be worth as much as £189m. Regulators have struggled to keep pace with the explosion. Between 2007 and 2010, at least 1,730 people died in India while, or after, participating in such trials. Many of those people, often only eligible for the studies because they were ill, might have died anyway. Yet when there are complications, even those resulting in deaths, there is often a failure properly to investigate.

6. I know exactly what you mean.
And you can see that their reactions are becoming more and more over-the-top because they can see the handwriting on the wall even if most of us can't. We just have to get over our fear of them. Because they're actually more afraid of us.

If one simply adds up all the politicians, all the armies, and the navies and the air forces and all the banksters and the idle, worthless rich and compare those numbers against the rising tide of earthly humanity -- we'll soon see that we're just us fighting against ourselves -- and mainly because that's what we were always told to do. The information age has changed all that. And that Genie cannot be put back into the bottle

That's why they're reacting so hard against the Occupy Movement. They can't pin it down with their old memes, they can't single out our "leader" and they can't understand what we stand for (namely, getting rid of them and out of power). They would love to co-opt our message and re-frame it, assign us a leader that they can buy-off like they always have done in the past, then declare to all that ''progress has been made.'' Like the Civil Rights movement.

Well fuck that. Them days is over and so are theirs and they know it, so they're displaying their BULLY mode because that's all these numbskulls know how to do (I think its all that in-breeding).

- We scare the shit out of them and they're afraid we might wake-up. Well, finally, we have.
