Cain's favorability drops after accusations: poll
Edited on Sun Nov-06-11 03:28 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Allegations that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain sexually harassed women in the 1990s have begun to damage his bid for the White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The poll showed the percentage of Republicans who view Cain favorably dropped 9 percentage points, to 57 percent from 66 percent a week ago.

Among all registered voters, Cain's favorability declined 5 percentage points, to 32 percent from 37 percent.

<...>

A majority of respondents, 53 percent, believe sexual harassment allegations against Cain are true despite his denials. Republicans were less likely to believe they are true, with 39 percent thinking they are accurate.

Teabaggers and FOX faithful may be clinging to him, but general election voters don't like the pizza guy.

2. His numbers will begin to fall quickly at the beginning of the week, and he'll be obviated by the
end of the week, as we examine weirder and weirder reports about the rest of the repub candidates. It's going to get weirder. And the weirdos are going to get more professional.

9. Argh! We're not oracles.
But, you've got a point. Teabaggers have painted Rethugs into a corner with these extremists candidates. It's a choice of the devil or the deep blue sea with them now. All their candidates are flavors of the month with them. The Republican Great White Hope may be Romney, but if history plays itself out like in the '08 election, he'll hit the Southern evangelical wall in South Carolina and the other Southern states will follow suit. It's their fault. They created a monster when they started the tea party. Shoulda remembered: monsters are never grateful to their creators.

16. They won't go anywhere...
once Herm releases his crayola colored, GOP certified, veracity certificate to public scrutiny. In the words of that song from the "Hag" "They'll all be drinkin' free bubble-up, eatin' that rainbow stew."

12. you sound like me!
my mantra is that he is a buffoon.

If there was nothing to the allegations, then they would not have reached for a payout and a "keep your mouth shut or we kill the kid" clause. Period. The accusers would have most likely been forced to take it to court and take their chances there. I can just image the kind of financial quagmire these women would have been thrown into had their case been as weak as the buffoon claims it was.

If even the whiff of inappropriate behavior existed, looks like the NRA lawyers swept in to muzzle those who could make a stink about it.

10. What are Romney's favorables?
AT 57%, Cain may still be looked at more favorably than Mitt. The only group that matters right now is the Republican base who will vote in the primaries. They don't trust that Massachusetts liberal, Romney. A lot of them think it's Romney who is trying to sully Cain's reputation and they'll double down on Cain, just to spite the GOP establishment candidate. If the rate of unfavorables is flattening, he could weather this problem, especially if he can play the victim card.

Of course, once the GOP meets his dollar drop out number - probably a mid-6 figures - he'll be more than happy to fold up his campaign and endorse Mitt. Palin is not the only one who knows how to squeeze cash from this organization.

13. Surprises me. I really thought people would let this slide.

Doesn't quite restore my faith in human intelligence, but at least people aren't letting him slide for this, as they did for Arnold in California.

The harassment itself is bad, but his response has been far worse. You would think, first, that he would have prepared for this. There were settlements, that's public record, it had to have come out. If he didn't know that, he's idiot. If he knew that and chose to ignore it, he's a bigger idiot.

And next there have been his bobbing, weaving, dodging, and his memory lapses, his recovered memory syndrome, his professed ignorance of the settlements . . . What could we expect from him in the Oval Office? Not Bill Clinton's competence, I'll tell you.

Antony Weiner resigned, remember? It wasn't nearly as bad as Cain. Remember what Rachel Maddow warned about if he were made to resign?

14. Cain=2012's Sarah Palin?
If Romney (the most likely front runner) picks him he's asking for a landslide loss a la McCain 2008.

15. Your all wrong...
If that is all they got on Cain is a couple of anonymous claims about sexual harassment that could have or could not have happened or that Cain was either aware that he was doing it or unaware... this is a non story and will not impact his long term favorability with that teabagger base....

I know I work with them and they sing his praise daily, they really want to see an Obama/Cain debate. They beleive Cain is their Reagan....

They say it removes the race barrier completely and we will therefore see on full display:

"The Obama Marxist, Socialist, entitlement, reparations paying, affirmative action, high taxed, government interfering, national debt out of control, economy collapsing society; aligned with; Cain's Capitalist, free market, independent decisions, business succeeding, motivated entreprenurial, individual accountabilty, increased jobs for everyone, bold plans for changing the tax system, with little or no-government intereference for a low taxed society."

So bottom line unless there is alot more to the story, unless we see sympathetic victims entering the headlines and speaking out on TV this is going to be used to beat the "LEFTWING media up"... You know the same media that gave Obama a pass on now let me remember how I heard this yesterday at work...

Obama got a media pass on Rev Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Redzko, Larry sinclair, Birth Cert, College and medical records, blah, blah, blah....

and so it goes...

18. Huh?
Was Cain indicted? Did Cain have a trial? So this is he said she said right or are we in some other country now where you are guilty just because someone says you are?.....

Besides that's not my point.... The point is the right is sticking by him until he is proven guilty he will never admit it and the way it was handled all confidential and hush, hush lends credibility to that meme....

Like I said, I wanted to see where the teaheads were with regard to Cain and so I asked similar questions to them where I work. I got hit with Larry Sinclair a dozen times or so.... and got aked so if Cain harrased these women than Larry Sinclair must be telling the truth about Obama right?

Anyway again the point is this is not going to tear his campaign down unless there is much more to the story...

21. Hope you don't have a law degree.
This was settled much before even a civil court day was set
up. Cain has lied tooooo many times on this one. Employees
should not be subject to sexual harassment. Remember it takes
less to prove in civil than criminal and Cain nor NRA wanted
anything to get that far.

19. Are you real?
You spurt lies and name calling against Obama and how the
media gave such a pass for him, on what. You can't take the
truth, Cain has been bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers.
I would not be surprised if Cain is the republican choice
after they have brought GWB and Sarah, nothing but the
"best" they have. We would love to run against
Cain, bring him on.

23. Ok silly why don't you read my entire thread...
I am bringing you third party teabag party information. The question is why is Cain not taking a beating in the polls post scandal, when something like this should rock his support. My comments are the quotes I get from the teabags when I ask them that very question.

They are sticking behind him no matter what and they will point out the alleged and the proven misdeeds of Democrats in order to prove their narrative of media bias..... Get used to it this is going to be one hell of a rocky election cycle....
