Protesters in Zuccotti Park may be free spirits, but they’ve decided they need some rules all the same.

And if you dare break them - you’re out.

The group has formed its own security detail to enforce a code of ethics mapped out during their general assembly meeting Monday.

“If you want to be part of our group, you have to be civilized,” said Paul Isaac, 45, who is part of Occupy Wall Street’s security team. “Unfortunately, some people come to disrupt the peace.”

1. The list includes rules against stealing, sexual harassment and hurting others - including feelings.

4. Wall Street Protesters Often Make Decisions off-site

I wonder what level of clusterfuck they are at right now?

http://www.wnyc.org/blogs/wnyc-news-blog/2011/oct/25/decisions-occupy-wall-street-often-happen-apart-general-assembly/

"One press group member pulled out a huge sign listing about five different suggestions for a code of conduct in Zuccotti Park — including zero tolerance for violence, drug abuse or damaging public property.

Most members supported the sign, but Kanene Holder was among those who opposed some of the sign’s language.

"Zero tolerance sounds very combative and the drumming is also a people of color issue to a certain degree," she argued.

She said since many of the drummers aren't white asking them to stop playing their music in the evening was another from of silencing. Members agreed to hang the sign up that night, but to continue to work on the phrasing."

11. As far as decisions made 'offsite'
there are more than 70 working groups. They can't all possibly meet in the park. The park is small and it is filled with occupiers, visitors, tourists etc all day. There are several sites within a couple blocks where meetings are held and anyone - occupiers, general public, etc, can attend the meetings.

The biggest problem is that the closest thing to an accurate meeting schedule available is online and a lot of people (esp while at the park) don't have access to it, and the chalkboard at the park that is supposed to show the schedule is not updated very often, so you have to go out of your way to figure out what is happening and where.

Any proposals by the working groups that effect the whole occupation are brought to the General Assembly for consensus, so saying that 'decisions are made' behind the scenes isn't quite accurate.

That is not to say that transparency and accountability couldn't be better. There are many issues that do involve access (and class and race), and I have used the word clusterfuck to describe things myself.

13. Zero tolerance is GOP rhetoric.

But I wonder what unarmed "security" can really do? They can come around and ask leave to leave? It's not like protesters can call police and have somebody ejected for hurting somebody else's feelings, and trying to bodily eject troublemakers is going to lead to charges of assault, and suits against the Occupy movement. Will infiltrators take advantage of that? They'd be dumb not to. I'd say tolerance has to be something above zero.

It is a problem.

10. This is a good thing
If they keep the sidewalks and driveways clear and keep the noise to a minimum, after 11pm they are pretty much assured of a good legal outcome in the event the police/city do something stupid. I would love to argue in court that if free speech means unlimited money then free speech should mean unlimited assembly--especially when the assembly is not preventing the people's business from being done or prevening neighbors from sleeping. Local time place and manner restrictions SHOULD be declared unconstitutional if enforcement is unreasonable.

16. My guess is that those who break the rules are probably OWSabotagers
Right-wing Jamie O'Keefe wannabes trying their best to make the OWS movement look like 'losers'.
