Saudi prince backs cleric's bounty offer for Israeli soldier
Source: Reuters

DUBAI (Reuters) - A member of the Saudi royal family has pledged $900,000 to a bounty offered by a prominent cleric to any Palestinian who kidnaps an Israeli soldier, according to comments aired on a private TV station Saturday.

Prince Khaled bin Talal, a brother of Saudi billionnaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, told Daleel television over the phone that he decided to contribute to Awad al-Qarni's bounty after the Saudi cleric received death threats for offering $100,000 to capture an Israeli soldier...

2. In his mind, it's indirectly paying random for all the Palestinians imprisoned by
Israel who will be swapped for one Israeli soldier. He sees a good rate of return.

3. US Gov not too long ago - "Saddam is bad, he gives money to families of Palestinian suicide bombers"
I wonder what they're going to say now. Any bets?

8. Nothing. They will say nothing.
Saudi Arabia is a loose end in U.S foreign policy.

11. Saudi Arabia is not a "loose end" for the US. I'd say they are FAR more central to foreign policy
In fact, I'd say they (and their oil) are the beginning and end of every foreign policy issue for at least another 30 years.

Their wholesale embrace of terrorism is revolting but is just another despicable piece in a nation kingdom that's disgusting in it's entirety.

12. It is disgusting
Which is why it is a loose end. Our unconditional embrace of Saudi Arabia makes us look like liars when we talk about how much we love freedom and democracy and hate terrorism. Therefore they are a loose end. The one country that can stop the state department mid-argument if brought up against them.

13. A loose end usually meets a hasty demise in US foreign policy.
We have a history of CIA operations that tie up "loose ends" to ensure things go our way (Central America comes to mind primarily but there are others). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia however is not an entity we control - they control us. That's not any kind of a loose end which implies a negligible role. The Saudis are the major players in foreign policy on a far greater scale than that.

I don't think the US elites care if it makes "us" look like liars. The PTB aren't in the game to be nice, or honest or reputable imho. They are in it for the money only, ethics be dammed. The peons may care about nebulous concepts like freedom and democracy but it's more than apparent the major global, financial players could give a shit. The US has been torturing, practicing rendition, assassinating, illegally seizing and illegally polluting for so long now that only the naive believe we are the "global good guys". On many levels the US is probably on par with the Saudis in our horrors. Most Americans just don't want to hear about the unsavory details (and even more than that wouldn't believe it if you told them).

6. It worked wonders last time.
If I'm them I do it again and again.

Israel was foolish to make that swap. Now all their soldiers are targets.

9. Next time Israel will launch a full military offensive and not stop until the message is received to
never try that again.

At least that is my reckoning.
