Tensions rising in ‘Occupied’ Hub
By John Zaremba
Sunday, October 9, 2011 - Updated 43 minutes ago

Mayor Thomas M. Menino said yesterday the clock — and the city’s welcome — are running out on Occupy Boston, the marching, chanting anti-corporate movement that commandeered part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway a week ago and turned a portion of the park into a tent city packed with protesters.

Relations between the city, police and the movement’s members have been amicable thus far, but Menino, for the first time since the Occupy Boston began, said yesterday there’s a limit on how long the demonstration should last.

“There will be a time when they’ll have to leave that location,” Menino told the Herald. Asked when the city might move to clear the park, he said: “We’ll make that decision in the near future.”

Protesters, in their eighth day of a demonstration that has no end in sight, marched from South Station into the tony Back Bay boutique district yesterday, asking tourists and bemused shoppers to join their ranks. Several marchers said Menino’s words won’t deter them.

9. People near Boston: for every 1 they "remove" make sure there are 10 to replace them the next day
This is your *one* chance to take back our government from the crooked politicians, corporations and lobbyists. You cannot sit this one out, it means too much.

The choice you make today will decide if your children live in poverty and corporate slavery or if they live in a free society. You decide.

22. And the people to whom you refer
do not own the history of the Boston Tea Party.

Don't call them The Tea Party or tea partiers. I call them Teabaggers.

5. Funny. I don't recall a built in Constitutional limit
on the right to free speech and assembly. What's the message? "Go ahead and have your say. You're on the clock and I'm the timekeeper. When I say your time runs out, we send in guys with clubs and start cracking heads."

8. Of course it is in the Constitution -
right after the section giving multinationsal corporations freedom of speech and the right to buy their own congressional reps.

16. Dang! Of all the sections for me to overlook.
Probably in with the same section that says that corporations don't have to buy votes anymore, they can just jump right over us and buy their congresscritters directly.

11. It's in the Patriot Act, which trampled all over the constitution.
And now the police serve "Homeland Security" before they serve, defend, & protect citizens, which they took an oath to do when they joined up. :silly:

6. There is an easy solution to the problem
If people have jobs and a sense of justice, they don't feel the need to protest. Give them what they need, problem solved.

12. I don't think it's that simple. Do people want to go 'back' to
the status quo? There is a fundamental problem with our current system. Our values are shifting.

300 Million outnumber everything they can throw at us, folks. We cannot allow a Koch Brothers / Citizen's United government to exist in America.

10. Boston's Republican candidate endorsing newspaper ... doing an article about
the "nuisance" of peaceful protests.

Even the Democratic long term, much beloved Mayor doesn't get it yet!

Of course, Menino has a broken budget, and can't afford to deploy lots of cops in overtime for a long time. THAT'S really what he was talking about.

15. Given that the police who would clear the park are themselves
working class, i.e., part of the 99%, Menino will be triggering massive cognitive dissonance among the rank and file if and when he gives an order to attack the Boston protesters.
