Supreme Court Considers Mexican Trucks
Wed Apr 21, 4:00 PM ET
By GINA HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - A Bush administration lawyer told the Supreme Court Wednesday that the president must be able to open America's roads to Mexican trucks without delays for an environmental study.

But a lawyer for labor and environmental organizations cautioned justices that "we're talking about tens of thousands of trucks" packing U.S. roads after a two-decade moratorium ends.

Some of those trucks are older and may be pollution-causing safety hazards, said the organizations' lawyer, Jonathan Weissglass.

The 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement signed by the United States, Mexico and Canada allowed Mexican trucks to eventually access U.S. roads. Trucks are limited now to commercial border zones, while details are sorted out.

2. I'm surprised they have time ....
...to consider this matter considering they have so many other important issues to consider such as whether Maurice Clarrett should be eligible for the NFL Draft.

4. I lived there for over a year when I was in college , and you will see
unsafe trucks with unqualified people driving them. And God knows what will be smuggled into the USA via those trucks. Anything is for sale in Mexico, and Mexican truckers givien enough $$$$ might unknowingly help a terrorist. I think Bush is making us much less safe in just about everything he does.

5. In South Texas
We had a Mexican tanker truck overturn near a resaca (basically a sort of pond). Turns out it was driven by a 16 year old! It was carrying a highly toxic chemical called furfural. Nasty shit- caused a huge fish kill.
