Pepper-spray videos spark furor as NYPD launches probe of Wall Street protest incidents
Source: New York Daily News

The NYPD has launched an investigation into why a police official pepper-sprayed penned-in female Wall Street protesters as video of a second spraying incident also emerged.

A now-infamous online video that went viral around the world shows Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna walking up to two women standing inside a corral of orange netting, shooting pepper spray at their faces and striding quickly away, leaving them on their knees, howling in pain.

A patrolman standing next to the women can be seen in another video of the same moment wiping his eyes and yelling, "He just maced us!"

More and more jumpy videos taken at Saturday's protest near Union Square have surfaced.

1. Good first step. I hope that fellow NYPD officers speak up. I know
that's not often done, but it does have precedence and frankly, this is one case where his fellow officers may well provide statements against him and in support of the protesters. Hoping! He deserves to pay massive consequences for both this incident and his pattern of abuse.

K&R!

4. Tony Baloney being fitted for cement shoes?
And a swim in the Gowanus Canal? :sarcasm:

I hope he's forced out -- minus his benefits and pension. Yes, I think he should lose his pension too. He wants to back up the elites -- let him pay the price everyone else is paying.

:grr:

15. Nobody swims the Gowanus Canal
They simply walk across it. It's kind of like walking on thick jello.

7. Just daydreaming about macing cops....
I'm penned in with orange netting, surrounded by grannies and girls, and the cops start macing us.
And we all take out our mace and fire back....

Not really focused on the consequences. Just a daydream.

11. Maybe what they found after shooting an unarmed black man 45 times?
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 02:48 PM by tcaudilllg
Gee I wonder.

They are merely desperate to maintain some semblance of order. They are trying to guilt the rebels into obeying their commands. They will no doubt continue to harass the protesters.

13. An investigation, eh? Didn't the NYPD spokesman claim the spraying was
"appropriate"??

Interesting results in the poll on the linked page:

Do you believe the police officer crossed the line?

Yes. The pepper spray clearly was not necessary. 70%
No. The NYPD was just keeping order. 22%
Not sure - I wasn't there. 8%

A day or so a similar poll was about 50/50. Guess multiple incidents by trigger-happy Bologna changed some minds.

16. "video that went viral around the world..." beautiful words-
How annoying that must be to the MSM.
Hard to spin why they have been the last
to cover the protests.
Even harder to keep broadcasting the message
that everything is fine here in "The Land of the Fees and the Slaves"
to the rest of the world...
Heh- Looks like the revolution WILL be televised after all.
Like Bill Moyers and Amy Goodman said-
we must all become journalists.

23. If it doesn't the protests will have more fuel for growth.
The people via the Internet are becoming self-aware of their power, even if the vast majority of the corporate media hasn't caught up to speed.

The other night I scanned ABC, CBS, and NBC prime time news programs and I didn't see any coverage of the protests much less the pepper spraying incidents.

Having said that I do commend O'Donnell on his reporting of the protests, along with that of Current T.V. which has kept it front and center.

I didn't check out CNN's coverage and my television refuses to broadcast FOX without me going Elvis on it.
