Thousands in Quebec without power after Irene
Source: Montreal The Gazette

MONTREAL - There were 165,909 Quebec households without electricity at 10 a.m. Monday, as Hydro-Québec crews worked to repair power lines downed by fallen trees in the wake of tropical storm Irene.

On the island of Montreal, the total number of customers without power was 7,053, Hydro-Québec spokesperson Marie Maujin told The Gazette just after 7 a.m.

Most of the households without power were in the Montérégie, with 53,489 homes without power, Maujin said. In the Quebec City area, the total was 29,101 homes without power.

Maujin did not know when the power lines might be repaired. Crews were working as fast they could, she said. Hydro-Québec spokesperson Patrice Lavoie said Monday that the 54 teams sent to New Hampshire to help with that state's power outages over the weekend would not affect the provincial utility's ability to restore power in Quebec.

NDG is for Notre-Dame de Grâce, located in the western part of the city of Montreal (lots of old, big trees there).

2. Yeah, but I also wanted other DUers to know 54 teams were heading
to NH for help, even if a few couldn't care less.

3. Ooh, it was a breeze! I lived through Katrina.
That was a storm. They'll get the lights back on. We had no power, no gas, no nothing. And all Bushie Boy could say was "heckuva job, Brownie."

4. Agreed.
Not to gloat about it, but to recall the history of Canadians for Katrina's victims:

Canadian response to Hurricane Katrina, on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina

snip ~~~
Ontario Hydro, Hydro-Québec, and Manitoba Hydro, along with other electrical utilities, sent repair crews to assist in restoring electrical power service.

8. Thank you for Posting this
I was looking for information about how Irene affected Canada. Irene was downgraded to a post tropical cyclone when it entered Canada, but unfortunately its winds are still pretty strong. Hopefully power is restored soon.
