Cheney: My book will have ‘heads exploding’ in D.C.
Source: MSN

When former Vice President Dick Cheney releases his memoir early next week, it may cause the second earthquake in Washington, D.C., this month.

“There are gonna be heads exploding all over Washington,’’ Cheney told NBC’s Jamie Gangel in an exclusive interview that will air on NBC’s “Dateline” at 10 p.m. ET Aug. 29.

In the book, titled “In My Time,’’ Cheney addresses a broad range of topics, including the attacks of Sept. 11; a secret resignation letter he kept in a safe in case he experienced catastrophic health issues, and his thoughts about former President George W. Bush and ex-Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell. The 46th vice president discusses those topics and more in his candid, unapologetic interview with Gangel, and he’ll likely have more to say when he appears live on TODAY with Matt Lauer on Aug. 30, the day his book hits stores.

One of the revelations in the book is the secret resignation letter that only one of Cheney’s staffers knew about. Signed in March 2001, the letter was locked in a safe at all times.

“I did it because I was concerned that — for a couple of reasons,’’ he told Gangel. “One was my own health situation. The possibility that I might have a heart attack or a stroke that would be incapacitating. And there is no mechanism for getting rid of a vice president who can’t function.’’

56. The point is it could have been a nun and Cheney would still have shot her.
Besides, from all reports the guy was retired and relatively harmless - and he survived - so even if it had been a good thing, Cheney muffed it.

58. I quail hunt roughly 20 miles from where this happened, and
do so roughly 10 weekends a year.
The man that was shot broke the cardinal rule of quail hunting.
NEVER break the line!
If a nun did the exact same thing, walked in front of the shooting line, I might have shot her, ANYONE might have shot her.

You do not walk though the dense brush in front of the shooters!
Stay behind the dogs!

Look I dislike the "dick" as much as anyone here, be realistic about the situation, it was an accident.

63. Well it seems to me that there is some uncertainty about the exact circumstances.
And there may have indeed been some blame ascribed to the shooting victim had there been a proper TIMELY investigation of the accident. But in fact there was not a timely investigation of the accident. And why not? Because the parties involved did not report the accident in a timely fashion - 14 hours late, to be precise about it. By that time, not only was it no longer possible to do blood alcohol analysis on all of the parties involved, including Mr. Cheney, but witness memories were now corrupted by discussion amongst themselves as to exactly what happened and by the passage of time. When given time eyewitnesses to an event tend to "reconstruct" the event in their minds in ways which reduce their individual culpability/and or toward a "desired" outcome. It is human nature. So important details such as where everyone was standing, the circumstances as to why one member of the party left the group, who had beers at lunch and how many, etc. might have been lost. This is not to say that Mr. Cheney or any of the other witnesses "lied". It just means that their memories of the incident are likely not as trustworthy as if there had been an immediate investigation by a skilled investigator. I do believe it was an accident. But when someone gets shot, the scene should be kept as intact as possible and an immediate investigation instigated once victims are attended to. That did not happen and that part of it was no accident in my opinion.

66. So many flaws, so little time.......
Private property, drinking and hunting is not illegal (stupid, not illegal, so that's a mute point)

Reported 14 hours late?
The accident occurred approximately 17:30 hours, and Kenedy County Sheriff Ramone Salinas III states he received 'official' notice from the Secret Service at about 17:40 hours.

The 14 hours was the statement given to the press. Reporting it to the press is once again irrelevant.

The dog handler/trainer for the Armstrong Ranch is a very close friend of mine, and was actually there when it happened.
We hunt together several weekends every year, and have talked about this accident at length.
I have seen him refuse to put his dogs out several times due to someone in the group having one too many.

The only reason I even reply to you is in an attempt to possibly help you see the light.
All too often those who we wish "swing" our way come election time tend view your attitude of "everything is an evil conspiracy" as little too kooky for their taste, and vote in opposition to avoid any association.

We want to attract people to our party, not scare the shit out of them with crack pot blind hatred. Think about it.

70. Asking questions about the sequence of events is "blind hatred?" Ok. For whatever reason,
the accident was not formally investigated until the next morning when a deputy sheriff took statements from Cheney and "other witnesses." Not clear if all witnesses were even interviewed at that time and exactly who all the witnesses were (Katherine Armstrong says she wasn't a witness, Cheney told Fox News she was). Ok, "reported" was the wrong word, but the incident was not formally investigated until about 14 hours after the fact (5 pm Saturday to 7 am Sunday - the SS statements put the time of the shooting around 4:40 pm). That should concern anyone who really wants to know the facts of the case. And anyone concerned about hunting safety, regardless of political considerations, should want to know that. Information was not actually released to the press until 1:48 pm Sunday, which was approximately 21 hours after the fact.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Cheney_hunting_incident

The question about whether drinking and hunting is illegal or not is irrelevant. The question about who, if anyone, was impaired by alcohol when investigating a hunting accident is not.

If asking these kinds of questions is crack pot blind hatred, then so be it. I have been accused of worse.

72. Thank you for clearly demonstrating my point!
"Ok, "reported" was the wrong word, but the incident was not formally investigated until about 14 hours after the fact"

So the Sheriff's department was busy having donuts.

It was a cover up!!!!!!
Cheney used his vast powers to repress them!!!!!
Put him in jail!!!!!

"That should concern anyone who really wants to know the facts of the case."

The rest of the sane world really doesn't give a shit, we recognize it for what it was, an accident.

I'll bet you don't apply the same scrutiny to Ted Kennedy's accident do you?

Feel free to look up the definition of hypocrite.

I don't care what party someone belongs to, EQUAL STANDARDS FOR ALL!

"And anyone concerned about hunting safety, regardless of political considerations, should want to know that."

Please feel free to share with us all your vast research for just ONE other hunting accident, just one.....

Your hatred is demonstrated by your obvious obsession with him, and desire to pin something criminal on him no matter what the facts are.

He blew up the Twin towers and the levees in New Orleans too didn't he?

Everyone knows he is a piece of shit, but I am sick of MY party being tagged the party of nut cases!

You do more damage to the image of ALL Democrats with this type of obsessive hatred, do the whole party a favor, don't represent us in any way.
We don't need to give ammo to the enemy, devote your energy to something that will actually make a difference!

I think he was the most influential political figure in the past decade perhaps even my lifetime and the impact of his presidency will be with us for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately in a very negative way.

And yes I believe he controlled the white house not bush.

I just think his influence was so secretive and toxic. I would be really interested in a true account of history from his perspective.

57. Fucking egomaniac
He was never more than a small, cruel, unpopular man who lucked and bullied his way into the White House.

Who cares what he thinks, besides the RW mouth-breathing demographic?

79. I read that Halliburton wasn't doing so well before valdemort
was selected as vice president. And, I think Dresser industries, with numerous asbestos lawsuits, was bought by Halliburton before the election. It seems that cheney really needed that VP spot to change direction of his "pet" corporation. All those lucrative contracts for Halliburton and KBR-war profiteering contracts paid for by the american people.

There were some, including me, who felt that, if little boots got into office, we'd be at war. The fabrications used to start a war with Iraq, with a complicit MSM, insured that those corporations favored by the valdemort administration would reap healthy gains at our expense.

And, remembering the interview with Chaffee, it was Cheney who met the repug congresscritters and basically stated that there would be no dealing with the democrats. Apparently, the shots called were coming from the white house. It seems the coup created a corporatized oligarchy, for and by the rich.
