Ohio union reps are a no show for meeting with Gov. Kasich
Source: newsnet5.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio - On Thursday, Ohio union leaders represented by the group We Are Ohio said they would refuse to sit down and talk with Gov. John Kasich about Ohio's new collective bargaining law (commonly referred to as Senate Bill 5) until the law was repealed.

On Friday morning, their words held true as union reps were a no show at the governor's meeting in the Riffe Center in downtown Columbus.

Reporters gathered in a meeting room awaiting a possible discussion between the two sides which have been at odds since Senate Bill 5 passed legislation and was signed into law in March. They waited about 30 minutes before calling it quits.

Kasich told NewsChannel5 he's ready and willing to negotiate, but was disappointed no unions showed. He said unions don't know how to negotiate, but that it's never too late.

2. That picture tells me
everything I need to know. Since Kasich knew the unions wouldn't be there, this scene was created. I'm supposed to believe serious negotiations are to commence with those chairs at those tables? No water pitchers or glasses? One microphone per table? So lame, so rethuglican.

45. This was nothing but a visual prop so Kasich can go around and say, "See, I tried."
Edited on Sat Aug-20-11 07:00 AM by bulloney
He probably got the advice to do this during one of those meetings with the Koch Bros.

Kasich and the Repubs in the Ohio General Assembly rammed SB 5 through and didn't give the Democrats and labor unions the time of day while it was going through the legislature. Now, with the news on the petition signatures gathered to put the issue on the November ballot, news from Wisconsin's recall elections and other rumblings around the country, NOW Kasich wants to play nice and COMPROMISE? He wants to do this and negotiate from the bill he signed into law and not start from the beginning which is what he should have done from the start.

I hope this is the first of many setbacks for this yahoo governor. His next project is to privatize the Ohio Turnpike and practically give it away to some crony so he can make a killing. All you have to do is look at the Indiana Toll Road. The road used to be well-maintained and inexpensive to drive on. Now, it's a POS and tolls have doubled and tripled since Gov. Daniels leased it out. You know damned well that Kasich will have the same fate for the Ohio Turnpike if he gets his way.

They just make him look more silly.

We know what "compromise" means. Obama and Kasich have dirtied that word.

3. Kasich the Clown - 197 days late
The clown and his goons wouldn't even negotiate with elected minority members of the legislature.

Even when thousands were in the streets (but locked out of the capitol).

Once a bill is signed and made into law, there is no more negotiation. Any 5th grader knows that.

If Kasich the Clown is serious, all he has to do is convince his puppets to repeal the law they created so joyously and quickly.

Meanwhile, he looks totally stoopid with his empty-room photo opps.

Since Obama made no comment about meeting with either side of this issue, your "supposin" that he would fly down and support Kasich is flame bait at it's finest.

I guess you can just as well say you're surprised Obama didn't cut his vacation short to fund raise for Michelle Bachmann, you know, since he didn't do it and never said he would.

They already hold all of the cards. The bill is on hold and the voters will overturn it in November.

Kasich knows this. He can't be that stupid. This is all show so that he can claim "I tried, but they won't negotiate".

Kasich can negotiate my :kick:

30. I signed the petition to get repeal of SB5 on th ballot, but I'm worried
about how it's going to go, because the political system in Ohio is rotten to the core, and that cockroach Ken Blackwell is still lurking around here somewhere. I hope We Are Ohio has a way to secure the ballots in November.

And I think it's a hoot that that crook, Kasich, got stood up. Bwahahahahahaha Did he really think they were gonna show?

34. There's Gov. Kasich, sitting with all his friends
Note to Democrats in Washington (and you know who you are): This is the way to negotiate. We Are Ohio put down a marker, and when the governor said no, WAO stuck by its previous statement and didn't show up for the meeting. Watch carefully and see if Kasich doesn't make some kind of concession, even if he doesn't repeal SB 5. In the meantime, WAO is going to proceed and follow through on their own efforts to repeal SB 5. Also, keep an eye on the polls: Who does the public side with, and does standing strong for a well-articulated principle gain or lose support for you?

Since his dads lowly work shoes clashed with Kasich's business suit, he had a more fitting pair cobbled by the monied interests of Ohio. When Kasich famously stated that "Ohio is open for business" on his first day in office, what he meant was "The Buckeye State is for sale".

Edited on Sat Aug-20-11 12:34 PM by JohnnyRingo
That's the only reason I can think of to appear at a meeting and sit around when the other side already said they wouldn't be there. The image of Kasich on one side of the room ready to hash out a deal while the other table sat unoccupied is the stuff of a deceptive TV ad portraying Kasich as reasonable.

It's amusing that Kasich claims the unions "don't know how to negotiate", yet he fears them enough to take away their right to do so.

70. Yes,
that "don't know how to negotiate" crap jumped out at a lot of us. I am glad that Mr. Kasich is pretending to believe his own mendacity--he looks the bigger fool by so doing.

I noticed, too, that these vile cretins are sitting on the 'right' for their little photo op...

I hope Kasich, and all those like him, continue to underestimate the intellects and the will of the hoi polloi.

72. So nice to hear sanity rear it's triumphant head in Ohio after the 2004 election
steal. They only stole that state because it couldn't decide which team it batted for. Thank god someone there has chosen sides. Wonderful news for Ohio and the whole country. Can't wait to see how blue Ohio is in 2012.
