Rick Perry's Texas Hometown Feels Abandoned By Presidential Hopeful
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- When Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his run for the presidency on Saturday in South Carolina, he began his speech with an origin story bathed in sepia and ready-made for the stump.

"I'm the product of a place called Paint Creek -- doesn't have a zip code," Perry explained. "It's too small to be called a town along the rolling plains of Texas." He then invoked images of his rural school, growing cotton and wheat, his mother sewing his clothes when he went off to college, his boyscout troop (No. 48), and meeting his future wife at a piano recital at roughly age 8.

It's an effective tale for Perry and one that he has used often in his more than 25 years holding elected office. In interviews, Perry has affirmed his love for Paint Creek. "It's a great place to grow up," Perry told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram last week. "Wonderful people out there."

Except a lot of those wonderful people out in Haskell County, home to Paint Creek, don't like Perry all that much. Residents who populated just about every aspect of Perry's biographical sketch told The Huffington Post they had grievances with Perry -- especially since he changed parties from Democratic to Republican in 1990. When it comes to helping his home county, they suggest, Perry is all talk.

Great article.

Perry's old Boy Scout troop leader won't vote for him.

The county sheriff refuses to say if he'll vote for him.

The county judge and school superintendent both feel Perry turned his back on the county, especially when he ignored flood victims there in 2004.

And Perry's claims to be a farmer are apparently no more valid than W's claims to be a rancher.

9. WTF?!? How does someone make THAT kind of shift and have crickets in the MSM about it???
The ease of duplicity for these "people" in politics now is disgusting to me...

I can almost (not really, but ALMOST) understand a former Republican turning to a Democrat right now under the guise that the Democratic Party of the Obama administration is in reality occupying much of the ideological ground of the former non-insane, non-far right wing Republican Party...but to go the OTHER WAY?!?!?!

HOW THE FUCK DOES A MAN WHO EVER ASSOCIATED WITH AL GORE IN THE LATE 1980's EVER BECOME A HARD-CORE FUNDIE ASSHAT RETHUG?!?!??!?!??!?!?!??! AND HOW THE FUCK IS THAT NOT THE SECOND QUESTION AT EVERYONE OF HIS PRESS APPEARANCES (RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST QUESTION, WHICH HAS TO BE "Mr. PERRY, IF ELECTED PRESIDENT HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE A SECESSION MOVEMENT FROM ANY OF THE 50 STATES?")!!!!

14. Because a lot of these politicians don't really believe that shit, it's easy votes
They just play the sheeple..

Dick Cheney could give a fuck less about gay marriage, but they have to keep the image up.

Now, when somebody like Bachmann comes along, be afraid...
She actually believes what she speaks. That's the scary one

3. I would rather that "we" not.
I'm still of the opinion that we should keep our hands off him and the other gop candidates other than to egg them to knife each other to death until they decide the winner, if we are really lucky maybe the backstabbing will continue on until 2021 :P lol

16. I like watching the GOP candidates attack one another, too, but I do think it's best not to let any
of them get away with their self-created myths for more than a year as we watch them duke it out. These false beliefs about how wonderful the Republican candidates supposedly are can become entrenched, among voters and in the media. So I'd like to get the facts out there as soon as possible.

And right now Perry concerns me more than anyone other GOP candidate.

so I'm not sure if will do any good.

15. I agree. Which is why I started a compilation topic on Perry in GD. Link:
About Rick Perry: Cronyism, Corruption, Cracked Ideas and Cracked Foundations (links)

And that links to websites about Perry as well as just articles about him.

5. It's surprising that he doesn't feel those hometown links...
since he maintained his homestead exemption on the home he owned in College Station while living in a $10,000 per month rental property in west Austin.

18. Well, his mega-rich donors obviously find him a useful tool (though that doesn't necessarily mean
they don't think he's a jerk).

He's certainly worked hard to earn that label...

13. Those folks better hope he doesn't get elected, otherwise he will
build his very own movie lot backdrop pig farm in their own little town for the run of his 4 years of stupidity.
