Stephen Colbert Super Pac loses treasurer to Rick Perry campaign
Source: NY Daily News

Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert's Super PAC had a setback Monday when the its treasurer, Salvatore Purpura jumped ship - to Rick Perry's campaign.

Funnyman Colbert's Super PAC had run ads in Iowa urging people to write in Rick Parry, with an A, leading up to the Iowa Straw Poll.

But those commercials turned out to be a bit of a conflict for Purpura, after Perry filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission with Purpura as his campaign treasurer.

"Obviously, there was a potential conflict of interest," Purpura told Politico. "I told (Colbert lawyer) Trevor on Thursday I would not be able to be treasurer anymore."

2. I hoped they checked his pockets as he headed for the door.
Something about this stinks...

and anyone that would jump from Colbert to Perry is certainly not in their right mind.

11. An accounting/legal job is an accounting/legal job

If you have the requisite skill set to be a campaign treasurer, just how many of those jobs do you think go looking to be filled on a regular basis?

I love Colbert, I have a man crush on him to be honest

But how could his administration allow Rick Perry ads to be financed?
or am I understanding this wrnog?

Is Super Pac the only reason why that idiot got that many write-ins?

8. Why, it's almost as if he didn't take Colbert seriously...
...which is something I didn't do either. Having seen his first commercials, I would say his satirical message isn't reaching anyone he didn't have in his audience already, and I don't think he going to accomplish much more in the future.

12. Is he a Dem?
I don't think he's ever come out as someone who supports one political party. I think he's quite likely left of center, but that may be as far as it goes. I think it was him who in an interview a few years ago said that he had a poster of Nixon in his office, because - paraphrasing - "he was our last liberal president", with his support of national parks, environmental regulation, etc. Comedians like him have an easy target with the modern Republican party, just because it's so patently hypocritical, not necessarily because of a personal ideology.

13. I wouldn't count him out yet.....
Yeah...the spelling with the "A" thing may not have garnered exactly what it was intended for...but at this stage, I feel, this is still fairly new satirical territory and with that comes a few hits and misses along the way.

I'm anxious to see what develops in the future...which, actually, in a much more broader sense, is really a bit ridiculous that all of these early *polls* concentrated in only one particular region soooo early on are really a waste of time and energy because there are so many other things/issues which SHOULD BE front and center than trying to align/determine some event that is clearly over a year away already!!!

(And of course, this all plays perfectly as just nothing more than a major distraction and leading *headlines* on the major *news* channels).

If memory serves, I was watching C-SPAN earlier this year during the last British elections for Prime Minister between the three candidates and (again, from what I understand of it) it was only 8 weeks beforehand....8 WEEKS!!!!! before the actual vote in which debates were FIRST aired...and my sense is that it was pretty low-keyed. Something akin to a local mayoral race on my local PBS station.

Quite a contrast from here in the U.S....which explains to a large extent why so much $$$$$$ is so-called *needed* to position a candidate so many months ahead of time and probably won't really amount to a hill of beans when 11-2012 rolls around... in the meantime, all this money and fund-raising and distraction and crap seems to take precedence over what most of these folks were hired/voted to do in the first place...which is to govern.

Campaign Finance Reform is really at the very root of so much of this, the way I see it.
