McKinney: 9/11 probe to justify comments

WASHINGTON - Cynthia McKinney, who as a Georgia congresswoman suggested that the Bush administration had prior warning of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, says an independent commission's investigation into the matter justifies her concerns.

"What it proves is that we need to have answers to the question that I originally asked," McKinney said in an interview with The Associated Press.

McKinney said she was right to question what the White House knew before the attacks....

Her comments March 25, 2002.... were interpreted as suggesting that the White House allowed the attacks so investment groups specializing in defense contracts would benefit from an ensuing military buildup. She singled out the Carlyle Group, where Bush's father was an adviser.

"What did this administration know and when did it know it, about the events of Sept. 11?" McKinney said at the time. "Who else knew, and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly murdered? What do they have to hide?"

1. She was all but crucified...
...for suggesting that the Bush admin and the intelligence community may have been negligent. It's a shame, really. I hope she keeps a relatively high profile and gets the opportunity to hold office again.

3. McKinney took massive contributions
from Saudi Arabia

She is not clean. If the Democratic party is dumb enough to come to her defense we deserve to lose!

bush and company are incompentent, but not because of her inane charge that they knew about 9/11, but because they went after Iraq instead of al queada!

4. Bush and Co are not incompetent. They are cold calculating oil privateers.
That said, it is naive to call them names reserved for the incompetents of the world.

5. Taking the money is not the problem,
it's the quid pro quo, and there is none with McKinney.

If Bob Barr wanted to give me $1000 tomorrow, I would take it, and likely donate it to... hmmm..maybe McKinney!

6. the real test of it is when they keep giving you money
if i got $1,000 from bu$h, i'd take it. shit, i'd be as stupid as he is if i didn't. but if he was to like keep giving me money for months, then i'd have to start asking myself, why.

i'll have to look at that tracking system somewhere that'll show who gave her money. i don't think she was getting paidoff by the saudis tho. that's almost hilarious to even contemplate.

8. If taking money from Saudi Arabia means you are not 'clean' then
most of the Congress should be removed. Besides, an African American running for office in this country can use money from any source. Judge her by her actions in Congress. She certainly didn't show Saudi Arabia any favortism that I can find. Besides, the Saudis are our allies...remember...Cheney even let the Saudi Prince know about our plans for invading Iraq before Powell or the Congress. That was Bush, not McKinney.

9. good for her
She OUGHT to go around telling everyone I told you so. When everyone else was bowing and kissing *'s ass, she stood up like a true American and asked questions.

And she has been proven RIGHT! (As Evil DUers knew all along.)

11. Oh, please give me a break!...
Not LIHOP or MIHOP? If you really believe that's true, then IMHO you really haven't been listening, reading, talking or paying attention over the last couple of years.

McKinney was correct to ask her original questions, and she is correct to ask them now when we know much more than we did immediately following 911. And yes, she deserves our support much more than do alleged Democrats Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman, Joe Biden, and Bob Kerrey.

12. Seems to me she'd be much less "clean" if she got funding from
the Saudis and kept her concerns to herself. The fact that she spoke out about this, especially considering that she spoke out when it wasn't considered politically correct, and certainly before Howard Dean started shrieking, then she's okay by me. If she bowed to the Saudis and kept her mouth shut, or enabled them in some way, she'd be guilty of basically what bush is guilty of. Well, ONE of the things bush is guilty of...

on exactly what it was Cynthia McKinney took from which Arabs.

I've not found any specific contributor who looks like someone who should be thrown into Guantanamo. Here's ONE of the contributors named, and he surely doesn't seem too terrifying to me:
Alamoudi was routinely quoted as an expert on Islam in America in the nation's most prominent newspapers, from USA Today and the New York Times to the Washington Post and the Los Angles Times. He also appeared many times on CNN, not only on political shows such as Crossfire, but also on midday fluff talk shows where people called in to ask him questions about everyday Muslim life in America. He gave money, both his own and the AMC's, to a diverse roster of political candidates, from conservative Senator John Sununu of New Hampshire to fringe leftists Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia and now presidential-candidate Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich. He sent money to both Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign and George W. Bush's presidential bid.

Yeah, odd source, but real information is so hard to come by, especially when it's gathered and disseminated in the nasty stench kicked up when the rightwingers started their frantic search for lib'ruls to savage in time to demolish their elections.

Just for the joy of a stroll down memory lane, who can forget the excitement of the day the nation sat in amazement as authorities followed the two cars from Georgia to Florida because some total waste of skin "thought" she heard the occupants discussing their plans to lay waste to Amurkans via bombs, or bioterror, etc.

A-rabs, turrurrists have become the NEW "Kommm-Yewww-Nists" to rally the less-than-sufficient right-wing.

14. Three years later, and they are still LYING about the quote.
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 09:00 PM by mouse7
Cynthia McKinney NEVER said what the AP claims was said...

"...Now is the time for our elected officials to be held accountable. Now is the time for the media to be held accountable. Why aren't the hard questions being asked? We know there were numerous warnings of the events to come on September 11. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, delivered one such warning. Those engaged in unusual stock trades immediately before September 11 knew enough to make millions of dollars from United and American airlines, certain insurance and brokerage firms' stocks. What did this Administration know, and when did it know it about the events of September 11? Who else knew and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly murdered?

September 11 erased the line between "over there" and "over here." The American people can no longer afford to be detached from the world, as our actions abroad will have a direct impact on our lives at home. In Washington, DC, decisions affecting home and abroad are made and too many of us leave the responsibility of protecting our freedoms to other people whose interests are not our own. From Durban to Kabul to Atlanta to Washington, what our government does in our name is important. It is now also clear that our future, our security, and our rights depend on our vigilance...."

http://www.rise4news.net/McKinney.html

"What do they have to hide?" IS NOT a part of McKinney's Quote. Look at the linked transcript. It's not said for another 10 minutes in the interview/20 column inches in the transcript. It's one thing to take a quote out of context. The AP instead cut and pasted words and phrases together here and there out of a very long interview and made their own quote up. If you do not cut and paste words together from all over the interview, you have the same questions the 9/11 Commissioners asked over and over and over and by the mainstream media in the mainstream press following 9/11.

15. Congress is just like our court system
Truth does not win, it is who presents the better case. It is up to us to be informed enough to determine the truth and act upon it.
