NJ pol resigns after nude photos appear online
Source: Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A politician who emailed a woman nude photos of himself that were posted on a GOP activist's website announced his resignation on Tuesday and said he'll consider all legal options to have the pictures taken down.

In an emailed statement, Cumberland County freeholder Louis Magazzu apologized to his friends, family and constituents but indicated that he thought he was being set up.

The 53-year-old Democrat, who's been an elected county official since 1997, said he sent the photos to a woman with whom he corresponded online for several years and that she requested the photos.

"I did not know that she was working with an avowed political enemy to distribute these pictures," he said. "I have retained counsel to determine what laws may have been broken by the unauthorized distribution of those pictures."

3. anyone think it's creepy and perverted that GOP activists are looking for these pics
of Dems and posting it on their sites and sharing it with others ?

it's one thing to expose something illegal or even related to their job as a public official.

but this just seems creepy and perverted.

24. No, it's normal for the GOP. What's creepy and perverted is that the Dems fall for it.
It's the rest of the Dems that shitcan these guys. If the Dems stood up for one's sex life being their personal business - which I thought at one time used to be a Democratic value - the Tea Party could scream all they wanted.

The people getting in trouble for sex are well within cultural norms in this society (whether they are within the norms of each individual Dem is another matter entirely - they just get targeted because the other party is who they are.

10. Private citizens send nude pics back and forth all the time, but most have the
sense to not include identifiable features like, you know, your FACE.

And I have exchanged identifiable nude pics online with an actual BF, but then I don't have a political or public career to worry about.

13. ..... that they'll be treated like human beings?
Shocking, I know. Why would anyone ever engage in completely legal private behaviour that would be embarrassing if public? Politicians should live in secure chambers, or consent to having their wanks be streamed live. Good politicians should only ever have sex with a spouse in the open air for any and all to see, just so we know that they don't have real private lives, like people do.

37. Says who? Tabloid journalism?
I only care if people are good at their jobs. Their private lives should be private. I think we could actually do something about that instead of just shrugging it off as something that "comes with the territory". We won't ever get much positive change in the world with that attitude.

38. It was it is
Do something where you are vulnerable like send pics to a love interest and if that relationship blows up, you get embarrassed. People in public office ought control their urges knowing if exposed, they will get embarrassed and shamed. People love to be put off by it. It sells.

40. Hey, I am just saying it is what it is
when it comes to sending nude pics of yourself anywhere. Especially if you are a public figure. Why do you think the national enquirer and other assorted magazines sell so well? Why is TMZ so popular? Living in public life has its downside. They ought know better then risk it. You're making a false analogy, because if one of them does anything in that regard - they will get railroaded out too. And rightfully so. I don't care what people do, but if they don't have the self control to do stupid stuff, well then they pay the consequences.

41. And I'm saying double-bullshit.
It is not a false analogy. People - still in some cases - live in fear of being outed as homosexuals, in some cases by tabloids. Is that ok, "because it is what it is"?! Should politicians live in the closest and never act out their true sexual desires, because it might cause some bad press?

42. okay I see your point and that is unfortunate
that people feel the need to hide their identity and not be outed as you say. But, that is something they have no control over, as far as orientation. You do have control over the sending of nude pictures to someone though.

43. sure, you have control, but what is the fundamental difference?
Ultimately, I see this as being about personal sexual behavior. If we're willing to demonize a segment of that, where is it ok to draw the line? My stance is, if it's legal and private, it should remain private.

Oh wait, Scott Brown got to be Senator, so it must work, they figure.

Politicians (male) are so often more than filled with their own ego, they just think they are God's gift to every woman or gay man in America and have to show off their "gifted" natural body.

If it's to a stranger, it's creepy.

If it's to someone you're in a relationship with, they've probably already seen it.

If it's to someone you're trying to seduce...... OK, are there any DU ladies who would be turned on by this?

I don't get it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
