Missing North Dakota Student's Body Found [Dru Sjodin]

CROOKSTON, Minn. (AP) - The body of college student Dru Sjodin has been found, five months after she disappeared from the parking lot of a North Dakota shopping mall, authorities said Saturday. Sheriff Mark LeTexier sobbed as he told volunteers, "Dru is home." He later confirmed that authorities had found Sjodin's body.

Scores of volunteers had joined the search on Saturday for the 22-year-old University of North Dakota student, who was last seen Nov. 22 the mall where she worked at a Victoria's Secret.

While a handful of Sjodin's relatives continued searching through the winter, official searches had been halted in December because of severe weather and resumed this month.

Bob Heales, a private investigator who has coordinated search efforts for the Sjodin family, said volunteers had been near the spot where the body was recovered "probably a dozen times," but the area was covered with snow.

I feel so bad for her family and friends. I wish that all women could take self defense classes, and learn about the hazards of being taken to a second location. I'm not blaming Dru here - she was obviously taken by surprise. But women have to learn to react in line with their instincts, not be 'polite' or 'good mannered'.

Women, PLEASE, NEVER, ever go with someone, even if they're holding a gun on you. RUN. Always run, yelling 'fire'. If you are taken to a second location, you will be dead. If he shoots, there's only a small chance he'd actually hit you and hurt you enough to stop you, and that makes a lot of noise. Don't go to a second location.

6. while I understand your concern that all victims be given equal attention

I think you miss the point that this kind of event is so incredibly rare in a sparsely populated state like ND, that that fact alone makes it very newsworthy. Your point would be better made with other cases, most certainly including that of Chandra Levy in a city where many young men and women die tragically without fanfare. This young woman was white, young and attractive, but I do not beieve that is the point in a state that is overwhelmingly white to begin with. And, I certainly don't want to take your emoticon as evidence that you are veiwing her tragedy in such apparent callous disregard.
