Lawmakers who led impeachment ousted

Some high-profile opposition lawmakers who helped suspend President Roh Moo-hyun's executive rights by pushing through the unpopular impeachment motion a month ago, probably never thought it would cost them their jobs.


The motion only boomeranged to Rep. Hong Sa-duk, a fifth-term legislator in the Grand National Party, the outgoing parliament's main opposition.

Hong lost out to former Environment Minister Han Myung-sook in Ilsan, a satellite town in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. The majority floor leader was as a key player in stripping Roh's presidential duties.

His political future is in the media's spotlight, as he earlier proposed he would retire from politics if he lost the bid.
