Wis. Gov. signs budget cutting education $1.85B
Source: AP

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker signed his first budget Sunday, a plan that plugs the state's $3 billion shortfall but also slashes funding for public schools and the University of Wisconsin System.

Walker signed the two-year $66 billion budget at a private ceremony at a Green Bay area manufacturing company. The budget passed the Legislature without a single Democratic vote.

It fulfills Walker's campaign pledge to balance the budget without raising taxes. He released just 50 vetoes early Sunday morning, signaling the Republican-controlled Legislature had given him almost everything he wanted when lawmakers revised the document. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle issued 81 vetoes with the 2009-11 budget, his last before leaving office.

Democrats argue a $70 million reduction in tax breaks for some who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit, as well as limits on a homestead exemption for poor homeowners and renters, amounted to tax increases.

Absolutely hideous display of ass-backwards "policy-making". I thought we had it bad in Georgia...

Planned Parenthood Bracing For Cuts

Organization Will Lose $1 Million In State Funding
Updated: 12:14 pm CDT June 26, 2011

Text SizeAAAMADISON, Wis. -- Once Gov. Scott Walker signs his budget into law on Sunday, Planned Parenthood stands to lose $1 million in state funding.

The organization provides reproductive health care services through 27 clinics across Wisconsin to about 73,000 people, most of them women.

A representative said the cuts will primarily affect their family planning services in small communities like Shawano and Wisconsin Rapids -- the clinics that rely most on state funding.

Those supporting the cuts said it is not in the state's best interest to provide funding to a group that provides abortions.

6. I know, blame Obama!
Many voted for gopers because they promised jobs plus they said nothing about the other stuff they are destroying in their respective states such things as worker rights, health care, education, et al.

Once these gopers got in everything they promised to do they did the reverse. They voting for them, and now the fight is on to retract these assholes.

13. Corporate Media Narraitve - Blame Democrats, Give Republicans A Free Pass!
Here is a story about Walker, who is fresh off of a crusade to end workers rights for public employees now gutting education, and some folks still cannot bring themselves to hold Republicans accountable. Instead, even "liberals" are now reduced to repeating the corporate media narrative.

5. Walker is going to find out soon what happens....
.... when you piss off the populace. His recall will be the first of several Repuke governors, I think.

9. It will be way too late by then
even if the recalls DO work (have doubts about that). Some more aggressive should have been taken when the first fascist initiative was passed. As of now the Repukes have absolutely nothing to fear, and as long as that's the case, this will roll merrily along.

All the states that voted for republican governors are getting what they were promised.

Republicans ran on the fear of deficits and deficit spending. He is the embodiment of the teabagger movement. Let's see if this country is smart enough to toss out these idiots (either by recall or the normal electoral process).

Cutting spending in vital areas AND cutting taxes, mostly for those making the most, offers neither a stimulus effect or balances the budget. It's just blatant crony capitalism. But what else does one expect from an idiot like Walker that dropped out of college and likely has no clue about basic economics (not that one needs a college degree to understand basic economics)?

What's frustrating is that our president is held hostage by this as well (both by his advisers and the GOP House). I'd like to think he knows better himself, but then again he is the one who appointed those hacks.

12. Does this mean he's running for President now?
Gov. Perry in Texas is doing practically the same thing, and the WSJ is already calling his unannounced run a done deal.
